2. Setup and First Use

2.1 What's Included

  • MEATER Probe (with two sensors)
  • Charger with built-in Bluetooth repeater
  • 1 AAA battery (included in charger)

2.2 Charging the Probe

Before first use, ensure the MEATER probe is fully charged. Place the probe into its bamboo charging block. The charger is powered by a single AAA battery (included). A full charge typically takes about 2 hours. The indicator light on the charger will show charging status.

2.3 Downloading the MEATER App

Download the official MEATER app from your device's app store (iOS or Android). The app is essential for controlling the thermometer, monitoring temperatures, and accessing guided cooks.

2.4 Pairing with Your Device

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Open the MEATER app.
  3. Remove the MEATER probe from its charger. The app should automatically detect and connect to the probe.
  4. Follow any on-screen prompts within the app to complete the pairing process.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Inserting the Probe

Carefully insert the MEATER probe into the thickest part of the meat, ensuring the probe is inserted up to the safety notch (approximately 2 5/8 inches). The tip of the probe, which contains the internal temperature sensor, should be as close to the center of the meat as possible, avoiding bone. The ceramic handle of the probe, which contains the ambient temperature sensor, must remain outside the meat.

3.2 Using the MEATER App

Once the probe is inserted and connected, use the MEATER app to:

  • Select your desired meat type and preferred doneness.
  • Monitor real-time internal and ambient temperatures.
  • Receive estimated cook times and notifications when your food is ready.
  • Access guided cook programs for various recipes.

3.3 Wireless Range Considerations

The MEATER probe uses Bluetooth connectivity. The stated range is up to 33 feet, but this can be significantly reduced by obstructions, especially solid metal enclosures like ovens, grills, or smokers. For optimal connectivity, ensure your smartphone or the MEATER charger (which acts as a Bluetooth repeater) is within direct line of sight or close proximity to the probe. If cooking in a metal enclosure, position the charger as close as possible to the oven/grill door or opening to maintain connection.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1 Cleaning the Probe

The MEATER probe is oven safe and designed for easy cleaning. After each use, allow the probe to cool. Wipe the probe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not submerge the probe in water or place it in a dishwasher, as this can damage the internal electronics. Ensure the probe is completely dry before returning it to the charger.

4.2 Charger Care

Wipe the bamboo charger with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the charger in water. Replace the AAA battery in the charger as needed to ensure proper charging and Bluetooth repeater functionality.

4.3 Storage

Store the MEATER probe in its bamboo charger in a dry place when not in use. This keeps the probe charged and protected.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Connectivity Issues / Limited Range

  • Symptom: Probe frequently disconnects or has a very short range.
  • Solution: Bluetooth signals are significantly weakened by solid metal. If cooking in an oven, grill, or smoker, ensure your smartphone or the MEATER charger (acting as a repeater) is positioned as close as possible to the cooker's opening or glass window. Avoid placing your body or other large obstructions between the probe and your device. Ensure the probe is fully charged.

5.2 Probe Not Connecting to App

  • Symptom: App does not detect the probe or fails to connect.
  • Solution: Ensure the probe is fully charged (charge for at least 2 hours). Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on your device. Try restarting the MEATER app or your smartphone. Remove the probe from the charger and place it back in to reset its connection. Check if the AAA battery in the charger needs replacement.

5.3 Inaccurate Temperature Readings

  • Symptom: Readings seem incorrect or inconsistent.
  • Solution: Ensure the probe is inserted correctly into the thickest part of the meat, avoiding bone. The internal sensor is near the tip, and the ambient sensor is in the ceramic handle. Make sure the ceramic handle is fully exposed to the ambient air of the cooker. For thin cuts of meat (less than 1/2 inch thick), the MEATER probe may not be suitable due to the required insertion depth.
