Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Hunter Protos 132 cm Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan. This manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure safe and efficient use of your fan. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation.
The Hunter Protos ceiling fan is designed for use in both indoor and outdoor damp-rated areas, such as covered porches, patios, sunrooms, and bathrooms. It features a 132 cm (52-inch) sweep, three reversible blades, and a powerful yet quiet WhisperWind® motor.
Important Safety Information
- Always disconnect power at the circuit breaker before installation or servicing.
- Ensure all electrical connections comply with local codes and ordinances.
- The fan must be mounted to a structurally sound ceiling joist or outlet box capable of supporting the fan's weight (7.4 kg).
- Maintain a minimum clearance of 2.13 meters (7 feet) from the floor to the bottom of the fan blades.
- Do not operate the fan with damaged blades or housing.
- This fan is damp-rated, suitable for areas exposed to moisture but not direct water spray.

Setup and Installation
Installation of this ceiling fan requires basic electrical knowledge and should ideally be performed by two people due to the weight of the motor. Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before proceeding.
Mounting Options
The Installer's Choice® three-position mounting system allows for standard, low, or angled mounting. Select the appropriate downrod (12.7 cm or 5 cm) based on your ceiling height and desired fan position.

This diagram illustrates various mounting configurations: standard, low profile, and angled ceiling mounts. Choose the method best suited for your installation.
Wiring the Wall Control
The included wall control requires installation into a standard wall switch box. This typically involves recessing the control into the wall, similar to a light switch. For new construction or renovation, a back box for the controls is recommended to achieve a polished appearance.

An illustration of the components included in the box: a wall control unit, three fan blades, and two extension downrods (5cm and 12.7cm).
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
- Remove the existing wall switch (if any).
- Connect the fan's electrical wires to the wall control unit according to the wiring diagram provided in the separate wiring guide (not included in this general manual).
- Secure the wall control unit into the wall box.
- Install the wall plate.
Operating Instructions
Using the Wall Control
The included wall control allows for easy adjustment of fan speed directly from the wall switch.
- Fan Speed: Use the dial or buttons on the wall control to select desired fan speed (Low, Medium, High).
- Fan On/Off: A dedicated button or switch will control the fan's power.

Reversible Motor Function (Summer/Winter Mode)
The reversible WhisperWind® motor allows you to change the direction of the fan blades for optimal air circulation throughout the year.

This diagram explains the reversible motor function. In summer, blades rotate counter-clockwise to create a cooling downdraft. In winter, they rotate clockwise at low speed to circulate warm air trapped near the ceiling.
- Summer Mode (Counter-clockwise rotation): Creates a cooling breeze, helping to cool the room.
- Winter Mode (Clockwise rotation at low speed): Helps circulate warm air trapped near the ceiling, redistributing it throughout the room for improved comfort.
To change the direction, locate the reverse switch on the fan motor housing (usually a small slide switch). Ensure the fan is completely stopped before changing the direction of rotation.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your Hunter Protos ceiling fan.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the fan blades and motor housing. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Blade Screws: Periodically check and tighten all blade screws to prevent wobbling and noise.
- Motor Lubrication: The WhisperWind® motor is permanently lubricated and does not require additional oiling.
- Damp Location Care: For outdoor or damp locations, ensure the fan is kept clean and dry as much as possible to prevent corrosion.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fan does not start | No power to the fan; Loose wire connections; Incorrect wall control wiring. | Check circuit breaker; Ensure all connections are secure; Verify wall control wiring. |
| Fan wobbles | Loose blade screws; Unbalanced blades; Improper mounting. | Tighten all blade screws; Use a balancing kit (not included) if necessary; Re-check mounting bracket installation. |
| Noisy operation | Loose screws; Motor hum; Blades hitting an obstruction. | Check and tighten all screws; Ensure fan is securely mounted; Verify no obstructions are in the blade path. |
| Fan runs slowly or not at all on certain speeds | Incorrect wall control setting; Motor issue. | Adjust wall control speed setting; If problem persists, contact customer support. |
