4. Setup Instructions

4.1. Unit Placement

The UFP-2000 is designed for submerged operation. Place the unit on a stable, level surface at the bottom of your pond. Ensure it is positioned where it can effectively circulate water and where the fountain (if used) will be visible and not spray water outside the pond.

4.2. Filter Media Installation (if not pre-installed)

  1. Unclip the four side clips to open the unit.
  2. Place the coarse filter foam in the designated compartment.
  3. Insert the three filter media baskets into their respective slots.
  4. Ensure the pump and UV sterilizer components are securely in place.
  5. Close the unit and secure all four clips.

4.3. Fountain Attachment Assembly

  1. Attach the desired fountain nozzle to the top of the fountain tube.
  2. Connect the fountain tube assembly to the pump outlet on the unit.
  3. If using an auxiliary water feature (e.g., waterfall), connect the splitter to the pump outlet and attach the fountain tube to one outlet and your auxiliary tubing (1/2" or 3/4" ID) to the other.
  4. Adjust the height of the fountain tube as needed (20"-24" range).

4.4. Electrical Connection

Route the 32-foot power cord safely to a grounded 110-120V 60Hz outdoor electrical outlet protected by a GFCI. Ensure the cord is not pinched or damaged. Do not plug in the unit until it is fully submerged in the pond.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Initial Startup

Once the unit is fully submerged and all connections are secure, plug the power cord into the GFCI-protected outlet. The pump and UV sterilizer will begin operation. Allow several days for the filtration system to establish biological balance and clear the pond water.

5.2. Flow Rate Adjustment

If using the splitter for both a fountain and an auxiliary water feature, you can adjust the flow to each outlet using the integrated valves on the splitter. This allows you to control the strength of the fountain and the volume of water diverted to a waterfall or other feature.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of your filter system. Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

6.1. Cleaning Filter Media

  1. Disconnect the power supply.
  2. Remove the unit from the pond.
  3. Unclip the four side clips and open the unit.
  4. Remove the coarse filter foam and media baskets.
  5. Rinse the filter foam and bio-media thoroughly with pond water (not tap water, as chlorine can harm beneficial bacteria).
  6. Clean any debris from the pump impeller and housing.
  7. Reassemble the unit, ensuring all components are correctly seated, and secure the clips.

6.2. UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve Maintenance

The 13W UV lamp should be replaced annually for effective algae control. The quartz sleeve should be cleaned periodically to ensure maximum UV light penetration.

  1. Disconnect the power supply.
  2. Remove the unit from the pond and open it as described in 6.1.
  3. Locate the UV lamp housing. Unscrew the single screw securing the UV lamp and quartz sleeve assembly.
  4. Carefully remove the UV lamp and quartz sleeve.
  5. Clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth and warm water to remove any mineral deposits or algae.
  6. To replace the UV lamp, gently pull the old lamp from its socket and insert the new 13W UV lamp. Avoid touching the new lamp with bare hands, as oils can reduce its lifespan.
  7. Reinsert the quartz sleeve and UV lamp assembly, securing it with the screw.
  8. Reassemble the unit.
