3. Setup and Assembly
The FERM GTM1003 requires some assembly before first use. Follow these steps carefully.
3.1. Charging the Battery
- Insert the 20V 2.0Ah Li-ion battery into the quick charger.
- Plug the charger into a suitable power outlet.
- Allow approximately 60 minutes for a full charge. The charger indicator light will change when charging is complete.
- Once charged, remove the battery from the charger.

3.2. Assembling the Trimmer
- Attach the trimmer head assembly to the telescopic pole. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
- Attach the main handle assembly to the other end of the telescopic pole.
- Install the safety guard onto the trimmer head. Ensure it is firmly attached to protect against debris.
- Attach the front handle to the telescopic pole.

3.3. Adjusting for Use
- Telescopic Pole: Adjust the height of the telescopic pole between 100 cm and 115 cm to suit your working height. Secure the adjustment mechanism.
- Front Handle: Loosen the front handle adjustment knob, position the handle for comfortable grip, and tighten the knob.
- Trimmer Head Angle: The trimmer head can be adjusted from 0° to 45° for various trimming tasks. It can also rotate from 0° to 90°-180° for edging. Adjust as needed for the specific task.
- Plant Protective Bracket: Extend or retract the plant protective bracket to shield delicate plants from the cutting line.
- Side Wheel: Attach the side wheel for easier edging along paths or flowerbeds.

4. Operating Instructions
Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted before operation. Always wear appropriate safety gear.
4.1. Starting and Stopping
- Insert the charged battery pack into the battery compartment until it clicks into place.
- To start the trimmer, press and hold the safety switch (usually a button or lever on the main handle), then squeeze the trigger switch.
- To stop the trimmer, release the trigger switch. The cutting line will stop spinning.
- Always remove the battery pack when not in use or before performing any adjustments or maintenance.
4.2. Trimming Techniques
- General Trimming: Hold the trimmer firmly with both hands. Swing the trimmer from side to side, keeping the cutting line parallel to the ground. Use the tip of the line to cut grass.
- Edging: Rotate the trimmer head to the 90°-180° position. Use the side wheel to guide the trimmer along the edge of lawns, paths, or flowerbeds. Walk slowly and steadily.
- Around Obstacles: Utilize the adjustable trimmer head angle to reach grass around trees, garden furniture, or other obstacles. Use the plant protective bracket to avoid damaging plants.
- Slopes: When trimming on slopes, always stand across the face of the slope, not up and down.

4.3. Advancing the Cutting Line (Tap and Go System)
The FERM GTM1003 features a "Tap and Go" system for automatic line advancement.
- While the trimmer is running, gently tap the trimmer head against a firm, non-abrasive surface (e.g., grass or soft ground).
- The impact will release a small amount of cutting line from the spool.
- The line will automatically be cut to the correct length by the blade on the safety guard.
- Avoid tapping on hard surfaces like concrete or rocks, as this can damage the trimmer head.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your grass trimmer. Always remove the battery pack before performing any maintenance.
5.1. Cleaning
- After each use, clean the trimmer head, safety guard, and ventilation slots with a soft brush or cloth.
- Remove any accumulated grass clippings or debris from the cutting head area.

5.2. Replacing the Cutting Line
