3. Setup and First Use
Before using your CUSIMAX hot plate for the first time, follow these steps:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the hot plate from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future storage or transport.
- Placement: Place the hot plate on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface, ensuring there is sufficient space around the unit for ventilation.
- Initial Burn-Off: It is normal for a new hot plate to emit a slight odor or smoke during its first use. This is due to the protective coating on the heating element burning off. To perform the initial burn-off:
- Place the hot plate in a well-ventilated area (e.g., near an open window or outdoors).
- Turn the temperature control knob to the maximum setting.
- Allow the unit to operate at maximum heat for approximately 5-10 minutes until the odor or smoke dissipates.
- Turn the unit off and allow it to cool completely.
- Cleaning: After the initial burn-off and cooling, wipe the hot plate surface with a clean, damp cloth.
4. Operating Instructions
The CUSIMAX CMHP-B101 hot plate features simple controls for ease of use.
Controls:
- On/Off Switch: Located on the left side of the unit, this switch provides a clear and intentional power control.
- Temperature Control Knob: Located on the right side, this knob allows you to select from 7 thermostatically controlled heat settings, ranging from low to maximum.
- Indicator Light: An orange indicator light illuminates when the hot plate is heating. It will cycle on and off as the thermostat maintains the selected temperature.
Cooking Process:
- Place your desired cookware on the cast iron heating plate. Ensure the cookware is centered and stable.
- Turn the On/Off switch to the 'ON' position.
- Rotate the temperature control knob to your desired heat setting (1-7 or MAX). The indicator light will illuminate.
- Once cooking is complete, turn the temperature control knob to 'OFF' and then turn the On/Off switch to the 'OFF' position. The indicator light will turn off.
- Carefully remove the hot cookware from the unit. The hot plate will remain hot for a period after being turned off due to residual heat.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your CUSIMAX hot plate, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Unit Emits Smoke/Odor on First Use: This is normal and expected due to the protective coating on the heating element. Ensure adequate ventilation during the initial burn-off procedure (refer to Section 3).
- Indicator Light Cycles On and Off: This is normal operation. The thermostat regulates the temperature, causing the indicator light to turn on when heating and off when the set temperature is reached.
- Hot Plate Body and Knobs Get Hot: This is normal due to heat transfer from the heating element. Always use caution and avoid direct contact with hot surfaces.
- Food Not Cooking Evenly: Ensure your cookware has a flat bottom and is centered on the heating element. The hot plate is designed for even heat distribution across the cast iron surface.
- Unit Not Turning On: Check if the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. Ensure both the On/Off switch and the temperature control knob are set to an active heating position.
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact CUSIMAX customer support.
