Setup Instructions

  1. Attach Windshield: Gently slide the foam windshield over the microphone head. This helps reduce wind noise and plosives during recording.

  2. Connect XLR Cable: Connect the XLR cable from the microphone to your camera, camcorder, or audio interface. Ensure a secure connection. This microphone requires 48V phantom power, which must be supplied by your recording device or an external phantom power unit.

  4. Power On: Activate the 48V phantom power on your camera, camcorder, or audio interface. The microphone does not have an independent power switch.

Operating Instructions

  1. Positioning: For optimal sound quality, position the microphone as close as possible to the sound source while remaining out of frame. The shotgun design provides a narrow pickup pattern, making it ideal for isolating sounds directly in front of it.
  2. Monitoring Audio: Always monitor your audio using headphones connected to your recording device. This allows you to detect any issues such as distortion, background noise, or improper levels in real-time.
  3. Adjusting Levels: Set the input gain on your camera or audio interface to an appropriate level. Aim for audio levels that peak around -6dB to -12dB to avoid clipping and distortion.
  4. Environmental Considerations: While the windshield helps with light wind, for strong wind conditions or outdoor use, consider additional wind protection (e.g., a "dead cat" windscreen, not included) to minimize noise.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the microphone body. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as they can damage the microphone's components.
  • Windshield Care: The foam windshield can be gently hand-washed with mild soap and water, then air-dried completely before re-attaching.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the microphone in a dry, dust-free environment, preferably in its original packaging or a protective case.
  • Cable Care: Avoid sharp bends or kinks in the XLR cable. Store the cable loosely coiled to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No Sound Output
  • XLR cable not connected properly.
  • 48V phantom power not enabled.
  • Input gain too low on recording device.
  • Faulty cable or microphone.
  • Ensure XLR cable is securely connected at both ends.
  • Activate 48V phantom power on your camera/interface.
  • Increase input gain on your recording device.
  • Test with a different XLR cable or another microphone if available.
Distorted Audio
  • Input gain too high.
  • Microphone too close to sound source.
  • Reduce input gain on your recording device.
  • Increase distance between microphone and sound source.
Excessive Background Noise
  • Improper microphone positioning.
  • Lack of adequate wind protection.
  • Environmental noise.
  • Ensure microphone is pointed directly at the desired sound source.
  • Use the included foam windshield; consider a "dead cat" for outdoor use.
  • Record in a quieter environment if possible.
