Introduction

The BlastIR-Link is a device designed to extend your Infrared (IR) signals up to 980 feet using a single Cat5e/6 network cable. This system is bi-directional, meaning each unit can function as both a sender and a receiver, providing flexible control over your audio/video equipment from a distance.

Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your BlastIR-Link system:

1. Connect the Extender Units: Connect the two BlastIR-Link extender baluns together using a single Cat5e or Cat6 network cable. This cable can be up to 980 feet long.

2. Connect IR Receivers and Emitters:
   • Connect an IR Receiver to the unit located near your display or where you will be using your remote control. Position the IR Receiver in a location where it can easily "see" the signals from your remote control.
   • Connect an IR Emitter to the unit located near your source device (e.g., Blu-ray player, cable box). Position the IR Emitter directly over the IR sensor of the device you wish to control.

3. Power the System: Plug the included DC 12V 0.2A power supply into either one of the BlastIR-Link units. Only one unit requires power; the other unit will receive power through the Cat5e/6 cable (Power over Cable feature).

Operating Instructions

Once the BlastIR-Link system is set up, operating your devices is straightforward:

• Point your remote control at the IR Receiver connected to the BlastIR-Link unit in your viewing area.
• The IR Receiver will capture the signal and transmit it through the Cat5e/6 cable to the other BlastIR-Link unit.
• The IR Emitter connected to the second unit will then broadcast the signal to your source device, allowing you to control it as if you were in the same room.
• Due to the bi-directional nature, you can also send signals from the source device side back to the display side if needed for certain applications.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BlastIR-Link system, consider the following maintenance tips:

• Keep the units and cables clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
• Avoid exposing the units to excessive moisture, extreme temperatures, or direct sunlight.
• Ensure all cable connections are secure and not under strain.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BlastIR-Link, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

• No IR Signal Transmission:
  • Verify that the power supply is correctly connected to one of the units and that the power indicator light is on.
  • Ensure the Cat5e/6 cable is securely connected to both extender units.
  • Check that the IR Receiver is positioned correctly to receive signals from your remote control.
  • Confirm that the IR Emitter is placed directly over the IR sensor of the device you are trying to control. Some devices may have their IR sensor in less obvious locations.
  • Ensure the remote control batteries are not depleted.
• Intermittent or Unreliable Control:
  • The system can be sensitive to the angle of the remote control to the receiver. Try adjusting your aiming angle.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between your remote and the IR Receiver.
  • Avoid placing the IR Receiver near strong light sources (e.g., direct sunlight, certain types of lighting) that might interfere with IR signals.
• Not Working with a Network Switch:
  • The BlastIR-Link is designed for a direct point-to-point connection using a single Cat5e/6 cable. It is not compatible with network switches or routers, as it does not transmit standard Ethernet data.
