1. Product Overview
The VermisTerra HydroSpiral Tube is a deep root irrigation system designed to deliver water, oxygen, and nutrients directly to the root zone of plants. This system helps conserve water by minimizing evaporation and runoff, promotes deeper root growth, and improves soil aeration, especially in compacted or clay soils. Each tube is 2 inches in diameter and 18 inches in length and includes a 1 GPH emitter for controlled water delivery.

2. Key Features and Benefits
- Water Conservation: Reduces water usage by up to 40% by delivering water directly to roots, minimizing loss from evaporation and runoff.
- Targeted Fertilization: Allows for direct application of liquid amendments to the root zone for efficient nutrient delivery.
- Enhanced Aeration: The wide deep root tube design increases oxygen availability in the root zone, supporting healthier plant growth and energy production.
- Promotes Deep Root Growth: Guides roots to grow downwards, leading to stronger, more stable root systems.
- Weed Reduction: Underground watering prevents surface weed seeds from sprouting.
- Reduces Root Rot: Improved soil oxygenation contributes to healthier roots and reduces the risk of root rot.
- Durable and Eco-Friendly: Constructed from heavy-duty recycled PE plastic, designed to be anti-clogging and recyclable.

3. Setup and Installation
A minimum of 2-4 HydroSpiral tubes per tree is recommended. Place 1 tube each inch of the tree trunk's width. The number may vary depending on whether trees are lined up or in an orchard setting where they can share HydroSpiral tubes. 2" tubes are recommended for sandy soil and 3" tubes for clay soil.
Tools You May Need:
- Shovel
- Auger or Post Hole Digger
- Gravel (optional, for drainage)
Installation Steps:
- Locate Placement: Find the tree's drip line (the outermost circumference of the tree's canopy). Mark a point along the drip line to place the first HydroSpiral tube. Mark another point at the opposite end of the tree's canopy. If placing more than two, position them equidistant from each other.
- Dig Hole: Using an auger or post hole digger, dig a hole approximately 18 inches straight down into the ground. The hole should be wide enough to accommodate the 2-inch diameter tube.
- Insert Tube: Place the HydroSpiral tube into the hole with the cap end facing upwards. You may choose to leave the top couple of inches of the tube extending above ground for easier monitoring. Fill the hole back with soil, ensuring the tube is snug and stable in the ground.

4. Operating Instructions
The HydroSpiral Tube is designed to integrate with any drip irrigation system. The included 1 GPH (gallon per hour) emitter ensures a slow, consistent release of water, allowing it to permeate the soil deeply and efficiently.
Connecting to Drip System:
- Insert the end of your drip irrigation spaghetti tube into the debris cup at the top of the HydroSpiral Tube.
- Connect the included 1 GPH emitter to your drip line, ensuring it is positioned to drip directly into the debris cup.
Watering Schedule:
Calculate the total gallons of water needed to adequately permeate the area around your plants. Set your irrigation timer to run for the corresponding number of hours, considering the 1 GPH flow rate of the emitter. Adjust watering duration based on plant needs, soil type, and environmental conditions.

5. Maintenance
The HydroSpiral Tube features a high-density mesh that minimizes soil entry, reducing the need for additional filter material. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.
Cleaning:
Periodically check the debris cup at the top of the tube for any accumulated leaves, dirt, or other debris. Remove any obstructions as needed to ensure the emitter can drip freely into the tube.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your HydroSpiral Tubes, consider the following:
- Insufficient Water Flow: Check the drip emitter and the debris cup for any blockages. Ensure the drip line is not kinked or damaged.
- Water Pooling on Surface: This may indicate that the soil is already saturated or that the tube is not installed deep enough. Adjust watering duration or check soil moisture levels.
- Tube Clogging: While designed to be anti-clogging, extreme fine sediment or root intrusion can occur over time. Ensure the debris cup is clear. If persistent, consider flushing the system.
- Poor Plant Growth: Verify that the tubes are placed correctly within the plant's drip line. Ensure adequate water is being delivered and consider soil amendments if nutrient deficiency is suspected.
