Setup
Battery Installation
The SX620 pH Pen Tester uses two CR2032 lithium batteries. These are typically pre-installed or included in the kit. To install or replace batteries, locate the battery compartment, usually at the top of the meter, and follow the markings for correct polarity.
Initial Probe Preparation
Before first use, or after prolonged storage, remove the protective cap from the probe. Rinse the probe with distilled water. If the probe has dried out, soak it in 3M KCL storage solution for at least 30 minutes to rehydrate the electrode. Ensure the probe is fully immersed in the storage solution.

Operation
Powering On/Off
Press the power button (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn the meter on. Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to turn it off.
Calibration
For accurate readings, regular calibration is essential. The SX620 features 3-point automatic calibration.
- Prepare the calibration solutions (pH 7.00, pH 4.00, pH 10.01).
- Rinse the probe with distilled water and blot dry.
- Immerse the probe in the pH 7.00 buffer solution. Press the CAL button. The meter will automatically recognize the solution and calibrate. Wait for the reading to stabilize and indicate completion.
- Rinse the probe again.
- Immerse the probe in the pH 4.00 buffer solution. Press CAL. Wait for stabilization.
- Rinse the probe again.
- Immerse the probe in the pH 10.01 buffer solution. Press CAL. Wait for stabilization.
- After successful 3-point calibration, the meter is ready for use.
pH Measurement
To take a measurement:
- Ensure the meter is calibrated.
- Rinse the probe with distilled water and blot dry.
- Immerse the probe into the sample solution. Ensure the probe tip is fully submerged.
- Gently stir the solution to ensure homogeneity.
- Wait for the reading on the display to stabilize. The meter will automatically compensate for temperature (ATC).
- Record the pH and temperature readings.
- After measurement, rinse the probe thoroughly with distilled water.

Temperature Unit Switching
The meter can display temperature in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). Refer to the specific button or menu option in your manual for switching between these units. Typically, this involves a short press of a dedicated button or a combination of buttons.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Probe
After each use, rinse the probe thoroughly with distilled water to remove any sample residue. Do not wipe the glass bulb, as this can cause static electricity and damage the sensitive membrane. If the probe becomes contaminated with oil or grease, clean it with a mild detergent solution, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water.
Probe Storage
Proper storage is crucial for probe longevity. Always store the probe in 3M KCL storage solution. Ensure the protective cap is filled with storage solution and securely placed over the probe tip. NEVER store the probe in distilled water or deionized water, as this will deplete the reference electrolyte and permanently damage the electrode.
Probe Invalidation Reminder
The meter features an intelligent function that reminds you when the pH probe may need replacement for optimal performance. Pay attention to this reminder and consider replacing the probe if readings become unstable or inaccurate despite proper calibration and cleaning.
Battery Replacement
When the low battery alarm appears on the display, replace the CR2032 lithium batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation and accurate readings.
Troubleshooting
- Inconsistent or Unstable Readings: This often indicates a dry or contaminated probe. Rehydrate the probe in 3M KCL storage solution for several hours or overnight. Clean the probe thoroughly. Ensure proper calibration.
- Meter Does Not Turn On: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Calibration Failure: Ensure calibration solutions are fresh and not expired. Verify the probe is clean and properly hydrated. Repeat the calibration process carefully.
- Low Battery Alarm: Replace the CR2032 lithium batteries immediately.
- Probe Invalidation Reminder: This indicates the probe's lifespan is nearing its end. Consider replacing the probe for continued accurate performance.
