  • No-Mess Moat: A unique design feature that catches excess batter, preventing spills and making cleanup easier.
  • Integrated Handle: For safe and easy opening and closing of the lid.

4. Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Remove all packaging materials and promotional labels from your waffle maker.
  2. Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the waffle maker with a damp cloth. The non-stick cooking plates can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth or sponge. Do not immerse the appliance in water. Ensure all parts are completely dry before use.
  3. Placement: Place the waffle maker on a flat, dry, heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate space around the appliance for ventilation.
  4. Power Connection: Unwind the power cord completely and plug the power plug into a grounded wall outlet. The yellow 'POWER' light will illuminate.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Preheating: Close the lid and turn the 'DARKNESS' control dial to your desired setting (1-7). The waffle maker will begin to preheat. The yellow 'POWER' light will be on, and the blue 'READY' light will flash until the desired temperature is reached. Once preheated, the blue 'READY' light will illuminate steadily.
  2. Adding Batter: Once the 'READY' light is steady, open the lid. Pour approximately 1 cup of waffle batter evenly onto the center of the lower waffle plate. The unique 'No-Mess Moat' design helps contain any excess batter.
  3. Cooking: Gently close the lid. The blue 'READY' light will turn off as the cooking process begins. The waffle maker's Thermal Pro system ensures even heat distribution for consistent browning.
  4. Monitoring: The blue 'READY' light will illuminate steadily again when the waffle is cooked to your selected darkness setting. Cooking time will vary based on batter type and darkness setting.
  5. Removing Waffles: Once cooked, open the lid and carefully remove the waffle using a heat-resistant plastic or wooden utensil. Do not use metal utensils, as they can damage the non-stick coating.
  6. Subsequent Waffles: Close the lid to allow the waffle maker to reheat for the next batch. The blue 'READY' light will flash and then illuminate steadily when ready.

6. Care and Cleaning

Proper care and cleaning will ensure the longevity of your Sage SWM520 Waffle Maker.

  • Cool Down: Always unplug the waffle maker from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Cleaning Plates: The non-stick plates are easy to clean. Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge to wipe away any batter residue. For stubborn residue, pour a small amount of cooking oil onto the residue and let it sit for 5 minutes, then wipe clean. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can damage the non-stick surface.
  • Cleaning Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the waffle maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • No-Mess Moat: Ensure the moat area is thoroughly cleaned to prevent hardened batter buildup.
  • Storage: Once clean and dry, store the waffle maker in a cool, dry place. The cord can be wrapped around the base for neat storage.
