2. Safety Information

Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before operating this lawn mower. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

General Safety Warnings:

  • Operator Responsibility: Always ensure the operator is familiar with the controls and proper use of the equipment.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) and appropriate footwear (closed-toe shoes with good traction) while operating the mower. Consider hearing protection.
  • Clear the Area: Before mowing, clear the area of objects such as rocks, sticks, wires, bones, and other debris that could be thrown by the blade.
  • Keep Bystanders Away: Do not allow children or bystanders near the mower during operation.
  • Avoid Wet Conditions: Do not operate the mower in wet grass or rain. Wet grass can cause slipping and make the mower difficult to control.
  • Disconnect Power: Always remove the battery pack before cleaning, servicing, or performing any maintenance on the mower. This prevents accidental starting.
  • Blade Safety: Never place hands or feet near or under the rotating parts. The blade continues to rotate for a short period after the motor is switched off.
  • Slope Operation: Exercise extreme caution when operating on slopes. Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down. Avoid mowing excessively steep slopes.
  • Battery Care: Use only the specified battery packs and charger. Do not expose batteries to water or extreme temperatures.
  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect the mower for damage. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.

  • For Mulching: Ensure the mulching plug is securely inserted into the rear discharge opening. The grass collection bag should not be attached.
  • For Bagging: Lift the rear discharge door and remove the mulching plug if installed. Hook the grass collection bag onto the mower's rear discharge opening, ensuring it is securely attached. Lower the discharge door over the bag.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Pre-Operation Checks

  • Ensure the battery compartment is closed and batteries are securely installed.
  • Verify the cutting height is set correctly.
  • Check that the grass collection bag or mulching plug is properly installed.
  • Inspect the lawn for any debris that could be thrown by the blade.

5.2 Starting the Mower

  1. Stand behind the mower, ensuring your feet are clear of the deck.
  2. Press and hold the safety button (if present).
  3. While holding the safety button, pull the bail lever (handle switch) towards the handle. The mower will start.
  4. Release the safety button once the mower is running.

5.3 Mowing Techniques

  • For best results, mow when the grass is dry.
  • Overlap cutting swaths slightly to ensure an even cut.
  • Avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass blade length at a time. If the grass is very tall, make two passes, raising the cutting height for the first pass.
  • When using the self-propelled feature, adjust the speed to a comfortable walking pace.

5.4 Using the Self-Propelled Feature

To engage the self-propelled drive, squeeze the drive lever towards the handle. To disengage, release the drive lever.

Important Note on Maneuverability: When backing up or changing direction, release the self-propelled drive lever. If the rear wheels lock or drag, push the mower forward a few inches after releasing the drive lever. This will allow the wheels to turn freely when pulling backward or pivoting.

5.5 Stopping the Mower

To stop the mower, release the bail lever. The blade will stop rotating. For complete power disconnection, remove the battery pack.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your lawn mower. Always remove the battery pack before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

6.1 Cleaning the Mower

  • After each use, clean the underside of the mower deck to prevent grass buildup, which can affect cutting performance. Use a stiff brush or scraper.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the mower with a damp cloth. Do not use water jets or high-pressure washers directly on the mower.
  • Ensure the battery compartment is clean and free of debris.

6.2 Blade Inspection and Care

  • Regularly inspect the blade for sharpness, cracks, or damage. A dull blade tears grass, leading to an unhealthy lawn.
  • If the blade is dull, it can be sharpened by a qualified service technician or replaced with a genuine Kobalt replacement blade.
  • If the blade is bent or damaged, replace it immediately. Operating with a damaged blade can be dangerous and cause vibration.

6.3 Battery Care and Storage

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • For long-term storage, charge batteries to approximately 50% capacity.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state.

6.4 Mower Storage

The easy fold system allows the handle to be folded down for compact storage. Store the mower in a dry, protected area, away from moisture and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries before long-term storage.
