4.3 Ethernet Link and Switch Port Identification
The tester can identify Ethernet link speed and duplex settings, as well as switch port information (e.g., port number, VLAN ID) using protocols like CDP/LLDP.
4.4 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Testing
The LRAT-1000 can detect the presence and voltage of Power over Ethernet (PoE) on a connected port, indicating if sufficient power is available for PoE-powered devices.
4.5 IP Ping and TCP Port Open Tests
Perform IP ping tests to verify connectivity to network devices and check for open TCP ports on servers or services, aiding in application connectivity troubleshooting.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To clean the device, use a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from any network cables before cleaning.
5.2 Battery Care
If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Use only the specified battery type (AA) for replacement.
5.3 Software Updates
Periodically check the NETALLY website for available software and firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features. Updates are typically managed via the LinkRunner Manager software.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Device Does Not Power On
- Ensure batteries are correctly installed and fully charged.
- Replace batteries with new ones if necessary.
- Verify the power button is pressed and held sufficiently.
6.2 No Link Detected
- Check the Ethernet cable for damage and ensure it is securely connected at both ends.
- Verify the network port on the switch or wall jack is active.
- Perform a cable test to rule out cable faults.
- Ensure the network device (switch, router) is powered on and functioning correctly.
6.3 Inaccurate Cable Test Results
- Ensure the cable is properly terminated and free from physical damage.
- If using a remote identifier, ensure it is correctly attached to the far end of the cable.
- Clean the RJ45 port on the tester if debris is suspected.
