Figure 1: Front view of the XVive PT-05 Pedal Tuner. This image shows the large LED display at the top, indicating tuning status. Below the display are two small circular buttons labeled 'pitch' and 'flat'. The main footswitch is prominently located at the bottom center. On the left side, an 'OUT' jack is visible, and on the right side, an 'IN' jack. The pedal's casing is black with white text and graphics, including 'PEDAL TUNER' and the 'XVive' logo at the bottom.

Controls and Connections:

  • DC 9V Input: Power input for a standard 9V DC (center negative) power adapter.
  • IN Jack: 1/4" mono input for connecting your instrument.
  • OUT Jack: 1/4" mono output for connecting to an amplifier or other effects pedals.
  • Footswitch: Activates/deactivates the tuner. When active, the signal is muted for silent tuning.
  • Pitch Button: Adjusts the reference pitch (A4 frequency).
  • Flat Button: Selects flat tuning modes (e.g., b, bb).
  • LED Display: Shows the note name, tuning accuracy, and selected mode.

Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect a standard DC 9V (center negative) power adapter to the DC 9V input jack on the top of the pedal.
  2. Instrument Connection: Connect your instrument (guitar, bass, etc.) to the IN jack on the right side of the pedal using a 1/4" instrument cable.
  3. Output Connection: Connect the OUT jack on the left side of the pedal to your amplifier or the input of your next effects pedal using a 1/4" instrument cable.
  4. Power On: Once all connections are secure, the tuner will power on automatically.

Operating

Basic Tuning:

  1. Step on the footswitch to activate the tuner. The display will illuminate, and your instrument's signal will be muted.
  2. Play a single note on your instrument. The LED display will show the note name and indicate whether it is sharp, flat, or in tune.
  3. Adjust your instrument's tuning until the display indicates the note is perfectly in tune (usually a green light or a centered indicator).
  4. Step on the footswitch again to bypass the tuner and restore your instrument's signal.

Adjusting Reference Pitch (A4):

  • While the tuner is active, press the Pitch button to cycle through different A4 reference frequencies (e.g., 440Hz, 442Hz). The selected frequency will be displayed.

Flat Tuning Modes:

  • While the tuner is active, press the Flat button to select different flat tuning modes (e.g., one semitone down 'b', two semitones down 'bb'). This is useful for instruments tuned down.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the pedal's exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, disconnect the power adapter and store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections for wear and tear. Ensure jacks are free of dust and debris.
