2. Setup
2.1 Battery Installation
The SPK1 thermometer requires one AA battery for operation. Batteries are not included with the product.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the thermometer.
- Carefully open the battery compartment.
- Insert one AA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
A low battery indicator will appear on the display when the battery needs replacement.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Power On/Off
- To turn the thermometer ON, press the ON/OFF button.
- To turn the thermometer OFF, press the ON/OFF button again.
3.2 Temperature Unit Selection (Celsius/Fahrenheit)
- With the thermometer ON, press the °C/°F button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.
3.3 Data Hold Function
- To hold the current temperature reading on the display, press the HOLD button. The display will show "HOLD".
- To release the hold and resume live temperature readings, press the HOLD button again.
3.4 Minimum/Maximum Temperature Display
- To view the minimum temperature recorded since the last reset, press the MAX/MIN button once.
- To view the maximum temperature recorded, press the MAX/MIN button a second time.
- To return to live temperature readings, press the MAX/MIN button a third time.
- To reset the MIN/MAX values, hold the MAX/MIN button for a few seconds until the display clears.

3.5 Using the Probe Hook
The SPK1 features a small hook on the back of the probe. This hook is designed to secure the thermometer in place when inserted into a register, supply, or return vent, allowing for hands-free temperature monitoring.
- Extend the probe fully.
- Insert the probe into the desired measurement point.
- Utilize the hook to secure the thermometer to the edge of the vent or opening.
4. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Fieldpiece SPK1 thermometer, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Wipe clean the thermometer body and probe with a damp cloth. Do not submerge the unit in water or use abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: When not in use, fold the probe back into the handle to protect it. Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the AA battery promptly when the low battery indicator appears to ensure continuous accurate operation.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your SPK1 thermometer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Display/Unit Not Turning On:
- Check if the battery is installed correctly with the right polarity.
- Replace the AA battery with a new one.
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the probe is clean and free from debris.
- Allow sufficient time for the thermometer to stabilize at the measurement point.
- Verify that the thermometer is being used within its specified operating temperature range.
- Display Error Messages:
- If an error message appears, try turning the unit off and then on again.
