3. Setup and Operation

3.1 Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown (middle dial) out to position 2. The second hand will stop.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
  3. Once the time is set, push the crown back into position 0.

Note: Some models may have two pull positions for the crown. The first pull position (position 1) is typically for setting the date, while the second pull position (position 2) is for setting the time. If your watch has a date window, refer to section 3.2.

3.2 Setting the Date (if applicable)

If your watch features a date window, follow these steps:

  1. Pull the crown out to position 1 (the first click).
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date.
  3. Once the date is set, push the crown back into position 0.

Important: Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can interfere with the date change mechanism. If you need to set the date during this period, first set the time outside this range, adjust the date, then reset the time.

3.3 Using the Chronograph (Stopwatch)

Your Townsman watch is equipped with a chronograph function, allowing it to act as a stopwatch. The three sub-dials track minutes, seconds, and 24-hour time.

  1. Start: Press the top pusher to start the chronograph. The large second hand and the sub-dial hands will begin moving.
  2. Stop: Press the top pusher again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be displayed on the sub-dials.
  3. Reset: Press the bottom pusher to reset the chronograph hands to their zero positions.
  4. Split Time (if available): Some chronographs allow for split-time measurement. Press the bottom pusher while the chronograph is running to freeze the hands and read an intermediate time. Press the bottom pusher again to allow the hands to catch up and continue timing.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Water Resistance

Your watch is water resistant up to 50 meters (165 feet), or 5 ATM. This means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering. It is not recommended for diving or snorkeling. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water.

4.2 Battery Replacement

The watch is powered by a Quartz movement and requires one C battery (SR920SW). When the battery needs replacement, it is recommended to take your watch to an authorized Fossil service center or a professional watch repairer. Attempting to replace the battery yourself may void the warranty or damage the watch.

4.3 Leather Strap Care

The genuine leather strap is designed for comfort and durability. To maintain its appearance and longevity:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
  • Keep the strap dry. If it gets wet, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and allow it to air dry naturally.
  • Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary, then wipe dry.
  • Leather straps can be interchanged with any 22mm Fossil watch strap.
