tectake® Plasterboard Prop Set User Manual

Model: 800396

Product Overview

The tectake® Plasterboard Prop Set is designed to provide stable and adjustable support for various overhead tasks, particularly when installing plasterboard or wooden slats. These telescopic poles allow for hands-free operation, significantly easing the process of fixing construction materials to ceilings or other elevated surfaces. Each prop features a quick-tension mechanism for rapid deployment and removal, slip-resistant support plates with ball joints for secure positioning, and a robust steel and nylon construction.

Safety Instructions

Always read and understand all instructions before using the plasterboard props. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to property.

  • Maximum Load Capacity: Do not exceed the stated load capacity of 30 kg per prop when used horizontally, or 25 kg per prop at a 45° angle. Overloading can cause the prop to fail.
  • Stable Surface: Ensure the prop is placed on a stable, level, and non-slip surface. Uneven surfaces can lead to instability and collapse.
  • Secure Placement: Always ensure the support plates are firmly in contact with both the ceiling/object and the floor. The ball joints allow for angled placement, but ensure maximum contact area.
  • Regular Inspection: Before each use, inspect the props for any signs of damage, wear, or deformation. Do not use damaged props.
  • Proper Adjustment: Ensure the quick-tension mechanism is fully engaged and locked after adjusting the height.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Wear appropriate safety gear, such as safety glasses and gloves, when working with the props and overhead materials.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the work area when props are in use.

Components

Each tectake® Plasterboard Prop consists of the following main components:

  • Telescopic Pole: The main adjustable shaft, made of steel.
  • Quick-Tension Mechanism: A lever-operated system for rapid height adjustment and locking.
  • Support Plates: Slip-resistant plates with ball joints at both ends, ensuring stable contact with surfaces, even at angles.
  • Adjustment Knob: For fine-tuning the height and securing the pole.

Setup and Assembly

Unpacking

Carefully remove the plasterboard props from their packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport if needed.

Initial Inspection

Before first use, inspect each prop for any visible damage, such as bends, cracks, or loose components. Ensure all parts are present and functioning correctly.

Assembly Steps

The tectake® Plasterboard Props come pre-assembled and ready for use. No complex assembly is required. Simply extend the prop to the desired height as described in the 'Operation' section.

Figure 3: The adjustable height range of the prop, from a minimum of 115 cm to a maximum of 290 cm.

Operation

Adjusting Height

  1. Place the base of the prop on a stable surface directly below the area requiring support.
  2. Loosen the adjustment knob on the prop.
  3. Pull the quick-tension lever to release the internal locking mechanism.
  4. Extend the telescopic pole by hand to approximately the desired height.
  5. Release the quick-tension lever to engage the locking mechanism.
  6. Tighten the adjustment knob firmly to secure the pole at the chosen height.
  7. For fine adjustments, slightly loosen the adjustment knob and use the quick-tension lever to make small incremental changes.

Securing Load

Once the prop is at the approximate height, position the top support plate against the material you wish to support (e.g., plasterboard). Ensure the slip-resistant surface of the plate makes full contact with the material. The ball joint allows the plate to pivot and adapt to slight angles, ensuring maximum surface contact and stability. Apply gentle upward pressure by further extending the prop if necessary, then ensure the quick-tension mechanism and adjustment knob are fully secured.

Working with the Props

For optimal support, use multiple props evenly spaced along the length of the material being supported. This distributes the load and prevents sagging. When working with plasterboard, position the props to hold the board firmly against the ceiling joists, allowing you to screw the board into place without assistance. To remove the prop, simply reverse the height adjustment steps, ensuring the load is safely supported before releasing the prop.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the props with a damp cloth after use to remove dust, dirt, or construction debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish or materials.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light lubricant to the telescopic sections and the quick-tension mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: Store the props in a dry, clean environment, preferably in their original packaging or a protective bag, to prevent corrosion and damage. Store them in their shortest, retracted position.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all bolts, screws, and moving parts for tightness and wear. Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Prop not holding heightAdjustment knob not tightened; Quick-tension lever not fully engaged; Internal mechanism dirty or worn.Ensure adjustment knob is fully tightened. Check quick-tension lever is fully engaged. Clean and lubricate internal mechanism. If problem persists, discontinue use.
Difficulty extending/retracting propDirt or debris in telescopic sections; Lack of lubrication; Bent pole.Clean telescopic sections thoroughly. Apply light lubricant. Inspect for bends; if bent, do not use.
Prop slips on surfaceSurface is wet, oily, or uneven; Support plates are worn or damaged.Ensure surface is clean, dry, and level. Reposition prop on a more stable area. Inspect support plates for wear; replace if necessary.
Prop feels unstable under loadOverloaded; Not enough props used for the load; Improper placement.Reduce load to within specified capacity. Use additional props for larger or heavier materials. Ensure props are placed directly under load and are fully secured.
