4. Setup

4.1. PM6860DR Electrical Socket Tester

The PM6860DR Socket Tester requires no setup other than plugging it into a compatible 220V-250V AC socket.

4.2. PM8908C AC Voltage Pen Circuit Detector

The PM8908C requires two AAA batteries (not included) for operation.

  1. Unscrew the battery compartment cap at the bottom of the device.
  2. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Securely replace the battery compartment cap.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Using the PM6860DR Electrical Socket Tester

  1. Plug In: Insert the PM6860DR into the 220V-250V AC socket you wish to test.
  2. Read Indicators: Observe the LED indicators on the front panel. The combination of illuminated lights will indicate the wiring status of the socket. Refer to the legend on the device for interpretation:
    • CORRECT: Indicates proper wiring.
    • MISSING EARTH: Ground wire is not connected.
    • LIVE EARTH REVERSE: Live and Earth wires are swapped.
    • LIVE NEUTRAL REVERSE: Live and Neutral wires are swapped.
    • MISSING NEUTRAL: Neutral wire is not connected.
  3. RCD Test (if applicable): If the socket is protected by an RCD (Residual Current Device), press the orange RCD TEST button. A correctly functioning RCD should trip, cutting power to the circuit. If the RCD does not trip, it may be faulty or the wiring incorrect. Note: This unit will not detect Earth Neutral Reverse during an RCD test.

5.2. Using the PM8908C AC Voltage Pen Circuit Detector

  1. Power On: Press the power button (Test pencil switch) to turn on the device. The LED indicator will light up.
  2. Self-Test: Briefly test the device on a known live circuit to ensure it is functioning correctly before use.
  3. Detect Voltage: Bring the probe (NCV sensor) close to the wire, outlet, or electrical component you want to test. The device will automatically select one of three sensitivity levels (High, Medium, Low).
  4. Interpret Alarms: If AC voltage is detected, the voltage-induction indicator will flash, and an audible alarm will sound. The frequency of flashes and beeps will increase with higher voltage or closer proximity to the voltage source. The LED indicator will also show the detected voltage level (High, Medium, Low).
  5. Live/Null Wire Distinguish: The device can automatically distinguish between live and neutral (null) lines with varying sound and LED light indications.
  6. Work Light: Press the Work Light switch to activate the white LED work light for illumination in dark areas. Press again to turn it off.
  7. Auto Power Off: The device will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
  8. Low Battery Indication: A shining prompt of low voltage LED will warn you when the batteries need replacement.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the devices with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement (PM8908C): Replace the AAA batteries when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings and proper functionality. Refer to Section 4.2 for battery installation instructions.
  • Storage: Store the devices in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. PM6860DR Socket Tester

  • No lights when plugged in: Ensure the socket is live and within the 220V-250V operating range. Check the circuit breaker.
  • RCD test does not trip: The RCD may be faulty, or the wiring to the RCD is incorrect. Consult a qualified electrician.

7.2. PM8908C Pen Circuit Detector

  • No indication when testing a live circuit: Check if the device is powered on. Replace batteries if the low battery indicator is active or if the device does not respond.
  • False positives/negatives: Ensure the probe is close enough to the conductor for detection. Environmental factors or strong electromagnetic fields can sometimes affect non-contact detection.
