2. Attaching the Camera to the Gimbal (REMOVU S1 Example)
To attach the GoPro HERO4 to a compatible gimbal like the REMOVU S1, first secure the camera into its specific frame mount. Align the white dots on the frame mount with the corresponding white dots on the gimbal's motor. Push the frame mount onto the gimbal and twist to lock it securely. Similarly, align the white dots on the gimbal's handle with the gimbal head and twist to secure the handle.

Gimbal Controls and Modes
The REMOVU S1 gimbal features a power button, a link button for connecting to the remote control, and a mode button. The remote control also includes a joystick for precise camera movement and an OLED screen displaying current mode and battery life.

- Pan Mode: The camera will follow horizontal movements while keeping the horizon level. Vertical movement is controlled by the joystick on the remote.
- Follow Mode: The camera will follow both horizontal and vertical movements of the gimbal, maintaining a smooth transition.
- Lock Mode: The camera remains pointed in a fixed direction, regardless of gimbal movement. The joystick can be used to adjust the camera's orientation within this locked position.
- Backpack Mode: To enable backpack mode, hold down the mode button on the gimbal for 3 seconds. An indicator 'B' will appear on the OLED screen, signifying that the gimbal is optimized for use with a backpack or when the camera is top-heavy.
GoPro Settings Access with Frame Mounts
When using the specialized frame mounts for the REMOVU S1, direct access to certain GoPro buttons (like the settings button on the side of the HERO4) may be obstructed. It is recommended to set your desired resolution, frame rate, and Protune settings on your GoPro HERO4 before placing it into the frame mount. Alternatively, you can use the GoPro App to adjust settings wirelessly.

Using the Gimbal in Upside Down Position
If you mount the gimbal in an inverted position (e.g., for low-angle shots), the GoPro HERO4 will record upside down. You can correct this by enabling the "Upside Down" mode in your GoPro's settings or by rotating the video 180 degrees during post-production editing.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera and gimbal. For waterproof housing, rinse with fresh water after saltwater use and allow to air dry.
- Storage: Store the camera and gimbal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
- Water Resistance: The REMOVU S1 gimbal is rain and water-resistant, meaning it can withstand splashes and light rain. It is not designed for submersion underwater. Always ensure all ports are securely closed.
Troubleshooting
Gimbal Calibration
If your gimbal appears unbalanced or is not holding the horizon level, it may require calibration. To calibrate the REMOVU S1 gimbal:
- Remove the GoPro HERO4 from the gimbal.
- Place the gimbal on a flat, stable surface.
- Power on the gimbal.
- Simultaneously press and hold the 'Link' button and the 'Mode' button for approximately 3 seconds.
- The OLED screen will display "Calibration". Keep the gimbal perfectly still during this process.
- The calibration process takes about 10 seconds. Once complete, the gimbal will return to its normal operating mode.
