Introduction

The Simmons Volt Laser Rangefinder is a precision optical instrument designed for accurate distance measurement in various outdoor activities, particularly hunting. This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your device.

Setup

Battery Installation

The Simmons Volt Laser Rangefinder operates on a 9V alkaline battery (not included). Ensure the battery is inserted with the correct polarity.

1. Locate the battery compartment on the device.
2. Using a coin or a flathead screwdriver, carefully unscrew the battery compartment cover. Note that the cover may require some effort to open due to its design.
3. Insert a fresh 9V alkaline battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align correctly with the markings inside the compartment.
4. Replace the battery compartment cover and tighten it securely to ensure water resistance.

Initial Power-On

After installing the battery, press the power/fire button once to activate the device. The in-view LCD display will illuminate, indicating the unit is ready for use.

Operating Instructions

Basic Ranging

To measure a distance, aim the rangefinder at your target and press the power/fire button. The measured distance will be displayed in yards on the in-view LCD. The device features 4x magnification for clear target acquisition.

Measuring Range

The Simmons Volt Laser Rangefinder can measure distances from 10 to 600 yards. For targets at longer distances, it may be necessary to hold the power/fire button for a full second to ensure an accurate reading.

Environmental Considerations

The device features weather-resistant housing, making it suitable for use in various outdoor conditions. However, avoid submerging the unit in water. For optimal performance, ensure a clear line of sight to your target. The rangefinder may struggle to provide readings through dense foliage or brush.

Battery Level Indicator

A battery level indicator is present within the in-view LCD display, allowing you to monitor the remaining battery life.

Maintenance

Cleaning Optics

To clean the lenses, use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optics. Gently wipe the lens surfaces. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, which can damage the coatings.

Storage

When not in use, store the rangefinder in its protective case in a cool, dry place. If storing for extended periods, it is recommended to remove the battery to prevent leakage and potential damage to the device.

Battery Replacement

Replace the 9V battery when the battery level indicator shows low power or when the device fails to power on. Follow the battery installation steps outlined in the Setup section.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Simmons Volt Laser Rangefinder.

• Device Not Powering On:

  Ensure the 9V battery is correctly installed and fully charged. Check for proper polarity. If the battery is old, replace it with a new one.

• Inaccurate or No Range Reading:

  Verify that there is a clear line of sight to the target. Dense brush, fog, or heavy rain can interfere with the laser signal. Ensure the target is within the 10-600 yard range. Objects closer than 5 yards will not register a reading. For distant targets, hold the power/fire button for a slightly longer duration (approximately one second).

• Slow Ranging Response:

  In some conditions or with certain targets, the device may take a moment longer to acquire a reading. This is normal operation. Ensure a steady hand when ranging.

• Difficulty Reading Display in Low Light:

  The in-view LCD display does not have a backlight. In dusk or dawn conditions, aim at a lighter-colored background or object to improve contrast and readability of the black font. The reading remains on screen for a few seconds, allowing time to adjust your view.
