3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Initial Setup

  1. Uncoil the 3-foot power cord completely.
  2. Plug the surge protector's 3-pronged plug into a standard 120V AC grounded wall outlet.
  3. Press the lighted circuit breaker switch to the 'ON' position. The switch will illuminate red, and the green 'PROTECTED' LED will light up, indicating the unit is powered and surge protection is active.
  4. Plug your electronic devices into the available outlets. Utilize the two wider-spaced outlets for larger power adapters.

3.2 Mounting the Surge Protector

The Woods 41546 can be mounted to a wall or other flat surface using its four keyhole slots on the back.

  1. Measure the distance between the keyhole slots on the back of the surge protector.
  2. Mark the corresponding locations on your desired mounting surface.
  3. Install screws (not included) into the marked locations, leaving the screw heads slightly protruding. Ensure the screws are appropriate for your mounting surface.

4. Operation

4.1 Power On/Off and Circuit Breaker

  • The red lighted switch controls the power to all six outlets. Press it to the 'ON' position to supply power and to the 'OFF' position to cut power.
  • This switch also functions as a circuit breaker. In the event of an overload (too many devices drawing too much power), the switch will automatically trip to the 'OFF' position to protect your devices and the surge protector.
  • To reset the circuit breaker after an overload, unplug some devices, then press the switch back to the 'ON' position.

4.2 LED Indicators

  • Red Lighted Switch: Illuminates when the surge protector is powered 'ON'.
  • Green 'PROTECTED' LED: This light indicates that the surge protection components are active and functioning correctly. If this light is off, the surge protection has been compromised, and the unit should be replaced.

4.3 Sliding Outlet Safety Covers

Each outlet is equipped with a sliding safety cover. Slide the cover to the side to expose the outlet for use. Slide it back over the outlet when not in use to prevent dust accumulation and accidental contact.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the surge protector from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord and the surge protector for any signs of damage, such as frayed wires or cracked housing. If damage is found, discontinue use and replace the unit.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Power to Devices:
    • Ensure the surge protector's plug is fully inserted into a working wall outlet.
    • Check if the lighted circuit breaker switch is in the 'ON' position. If it has tripped to 'OFF', unplug some devices and reset it.
    • Verify that the wall outlet itself is functioning by plugging in another device directly.
  • Green 'PROTECTED' LED is Off:
    • If the green LED is off while the unit is powered on, it indicates that the surge protection components have absorbed a significant surge and are no longer providing protection. The unit will still function as a power strip, but it will not protect against future surges. For continued protection, the surge protector should be replaced.
