Important Safeguards

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully unpack the coffee maker and remove all packaging materials. Keep packaging for future storage or shipping.
  2. Cleaning: Before first use, wash the carafe, lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a clean, damp cloth.
  3. First Use (Cleaning Cycle):
    • Fill the water reservoir to the 14-cup mark with cold water.
    • Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
    • Press the "Brew/Off Auto Off" button to start a full brewing cycle with only water. This will clean the internal components.
    • Once the cycle is complete, discard the water from the carafe.
  4. Filter Installation: Place the reusable gold-tone filter into the filter basket. If using a paper filter, ensure it is properly seated.

Operating Instructions

  1. Filling the Water Reservoir: Open the top lid and fill the water reservoir with cold, fresh water using the easy-to-view water window for accurate measurement. Do not exceed the 14-cup maximum fill line.
  2. Adding Coffee Grounds: Place the gold-tone filter (or a paper filter) into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. For best results, use 1 scoop (approx. 1 tablespoon) of ground coffee per cup. Close the top lid securely.
  3. Placing the Carafe: Ensure the glass carafe is empty and properly seated on the warming plate.
  4. Setting Brew Strength: Press the "Bold" button to select between regular or bold coffee strength. The indicator light will illuminate for the selected strength.
  5. Setting Carafe Temperature: Use the "Carafe Temp" setting (if available on your model) to adjust the warming plate temperature to Low, Medium, or High.
  6. Brewing Coffee:
    • Immediate Brew: Press the "Brew/Off Auto Off" button to start brewing immediately. The indicator light will illuminate.
    • Programmed Brew: To set a delayed brew time:
      1. Press the "Prog Auto On" button.
      2. Use the "Hr" and "Min" buttons to set the desired brew start time.
      3. Press "Prog Auto On" again to confirm. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating the programmed brew is set.
  7. Brew Pause Feature: The coffee maker features a Brew Pause function, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
  8. Auto-Off Feature: The coffee maker will automatically shut off after a set period (0-4 hours), which can be adjusted. Refer to the control panel for specific adjustment instructions.
  9. Ready Tone: An optional ready tone will sound when the brewing cycle is complete. This can be turned on or off using the "Tone" setting.

Maintenance

Daily Cleaning:

  • Always unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
  • Remove the filter basket and carafe. Wash them in warm, soapy water. They are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
  • Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Do not immerse the base unit in water or other liquids.

Decalcification (Cleaning Cycle):

Mineral deposits (calcium and lime) can build up in your coffee maker and affect its performance. The "Clean" indicator light will illuminate when it's time to decalcify the unit.

  1. Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
  2. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  3. Press the "Clean" button. The indicator light will illuminate.
  4. The coffee maker will run a special cleaning cycle. Once complete, the "Clean" light will turn off.
  5. Run two full cycles with fresh cold water to rinse the unit thoroughly.
