3. Setup and Installation

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Unlocking the Door
- Using the Keypad: Touch the keypad with the back of your hand or fingers to activate it. Enter your 4-8 digit PIN code followed by the checkmark (✓) button. The deadbolt will retract, allowing you to open the door.
- Manual Unlock (Interior): From the inside, simply turn the thumbturn to unlock the deadbolt.
- Smart Home App: If integrated with a compatible Z-Wave system, use your smart home app to remotely unlock the door.
4.2 Locking the Door
- One-Touch Locking: From the outside, simply press any button on the keypad to lock the door.
- Auto-Relock: Enable the auto-relock feature in the lock's settings (refer to the full installation manual for menu options). The lock will automatically relock after a set period (default is 30 seconds) once unlocked.
- Manual Lock (Interior): From the inside, turn the thumbturn to lock the deadbolt.
- Smart Home App: If integrated with a compatible Z-Wave system, use your smart home app to remotely lock the door.
4.3 Managing PIN Codes
The lock supports up to 250 unique PIN codes when used with a Network Module, or 25 without. Refer to your full installation manual for instructions on adding, deleting, and modifying user PIN codes through the lock's menu options.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Battery Replacement
The Yale Assure Lock SL uses 4 AA alkaline batteries (included). When the batteries are low, the lock will provide an audible and visual low battery warning. To replace batteries:
- Remove the battery cover on the interior side of the lock.
- Remove the old batteries.
- Insert four new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the battery cover.
5.2 Emergency 9V Battery Terminal
In the event that the batteries completely die and you are locked out, a 9V battery terminal is located on the bottom of the exterior keypad. Simply press a 9V battery against the terminals to temporarily power the lock and enter your PIN code.
6. Troubleshooting
- Lock not responding: Check battery levels. Use the 9V battery terminal if needed.
- Keypad not lighting up: Touch the keypad to activate it. Ensure batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge.
- PIN code not working: Ensure you are entering the correct 4-8 digit code. Verify that the code has not expired or been deleted.
- Z-Wave connectivity issues: Ensure your Z-Wave hub is powered on and within range. Refer to your Z-Wave hub's manual for pairing instructions.
- Lock mechanism is stiff: Ensure the door frame and strike plate are properly aligned. Lubricate the deadbolt mechanism if necessary.
