CDP R-SMART1010 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) User Manual

Model: R-SMART1010

1. Introduction

The CDP R-SMART1010 is an interactive Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) designed to provide reliable power protection for your electronic devices. It safeguards against power outages, voltage fluctuations, surges, and spikes, ensuring continuous operation and preventing data loss or hardware damage. This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your UPS.

2. Safety Instructions

Please read and follow all safety instructions carefully before installing or operating the UPS. Failure to do so may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Do not open the UPS casing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Do not install the UPS in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in environments with excessive dust, humidity, or corrosive substances.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the UPS. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Connect the UPS to a grounded AC power outlet only.
  • Do not connect non-computer related equipment (e.g., laser printers, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers) to the battery backup outlets, as their high power consumption may overload the UPS.
  • If the UPS is stored for an extended period, recharge the battery every three months to maintain battery life.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • AC Input: Connects the UPS to the wall power outlet.
  • Battery Backup & AVR Outlets (5): Provide power from the battery during outages and regulate voltage. Connect critical devices here.
  • Surge Only Outlets (5): Provide surge protection but no battery backup. Connect non-critical devices here.
  • USB Communication Port: Connects to a computer for monitoring and controlled shutdown.
  • Coaxial Protection (In/Out): Protects connected coaxial lines from surges.
  • Circuit Breaker: Resettable overload protection.

5. Setup

5.1 Placement

Place the UPS in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated indoor area. Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas with excessive dust or humidity. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper airflow.

5.2 Initial Battery Charge

  1. Connect the UPS power cord to a grounded wall outlet.
  2. Allow the UPS to charge for a minimum of 5 hours before connecting any equipment. This ensures the battery is fully charged and ready to provide optimal backup time.

5.3 Connecting Equipment

  1. Battery Backup & AVR Outlets: Plug your critical devices, such as computers, monitors, and network equipment (modems, routers), into these outlets. These devices will receive power from the battery during an outage and benefit from voltage regulation.
  2. Surge Only Outlets: Plug non-critical devices, such as printers or scanners, into these outlets. They will be protected from surges but will not receive battery power during an outage.
  3. USB Communication: Connect the supplied USB cable from the UPS USB port to your computer's USB port. This allows for power management software (if installed) to monitor the UPS status and perform graceful shutdowns.
  4. Coaxial Protection: If desired, connect your coaxial cable (e.g., for cable modem or TV) through the 'IN' and 'OUT' coaxial ports on the UPS rear panel for surge protection.

6. Operation

6.1 Powering On/Off

  • To Turn On: Press and hold the power button on the front panel for approximately 2 seconds until you hear a beep and the LCD display illuminates.
  • To Turn Off: Press and hold the power button for approximately 2 seconds until the UPS powers down.

6.2 LCD Display Indicators

The LCD display provides real-time information about the UPS status. Common indicators include:

  • Input Voltage: Displays the current voltage from the wall outlet.
  • Output Voltage: Displays the voltage supplied by the UPS to connected devices.
  • Battery Level: Indicates the remaining battery charge.
  • Load Level: Shows the percentage of the UPS's capacity being used by connected devices.
  • Operational Mode: Indicates if the UPS is operating on utility power, battery power, or in AVR mode.

6.3 Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)

The R-SMART1010 features an integrated Automatic Voltage Regulator. When the incoming utility voltage is too high or too low, the AVR automatically adjusts it to a safe level without switching to battery power, protecting your devices and conserving battery life.

6.4 Battery Backup Mode

During a power outage, the UPS will automatically switch to battery power, providing continuous power to devices connected to the battery backup outlets. The UPS will emit an audible alarm to indicate it is operating on battery power. The LCD will show the remaining battery charge and estimated runtime. When utility power returns, the UPS will automatically switch back to utility power and begin recharging its battery.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Battery Care

  • To maximize battery life, ensure the UPS is connected to a power outlet and the battery is kept charged.
  • If the UPS is not used for an extended period, recharge the battery every three months for at least 5 hours.
  • Battery replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel. Contact CDP support for assistance.

7.2 Cleaning

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the UPS. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners, as they may damage the unit or cause electric shock.

7.3 Storage

Store the UPS in a cool, dry location with the battery fully charged. Recharge the battery every three months to prevent permanent damage.

8. Troubleshooting

Refer to the following table for common issues and their solutions.
