  3. Placement: Place the rice cooker on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from water and direct heat sources.

Operating Instructions

Basic Rice Cooking

  1. Measure Rice: Use the provided measuring cup (if included, otherwise a standard cup) to measure the desired amount of rice. The rice cooker has a capacity of 1.8 liters, suitable for up to 8 servings.
  2. Rinse Rice: Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.
  3. Add to Inner Pot: Place the rinsed rice into the inner pot.
  4. Add Water: Add the appropriate amount of water. A common ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1.5-2 cups of water, but this can vary based on rice type and desired consistency. Refer to your rice packaging for specific recommendations.
  5. Place Inner Pot: Carefully place the inner pot into the main unit, ensuring it sits correctly on the heating plate.
  6. Close Lid: Place the lid securely on the inner pot.
  7. Select Cooking Level: Turn the control dial from 'OFF' to your desired cooking level. For standard fluffy rice without a crust, select level '1'.
  8. Start Cooking: The cooking process will begin automatically. The indicator light will illuminate.
  9. Keep Warm: Once cooking is complete, the appliance will automatically switch to a 'Keep Warm' function (if available, or simply turn off).
  10. Serve: Allow the rice to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving for best results. Use a non-metallic utensil to fluff and serve the rice.

Preparing Tahdig (Crispy Rice Crust)

The Pars Khazar 181 TS Rice Cooker is specifically designed to create a delicious golden and crispy rice crust, known as Tahdig, a traditional Persian method.

  1. Follow steps 1-6 from "Basic Rice Cooking".
  2. Adjust Browning Level: Turn the control dial to select your desired Tahdig browning level:
    • Level 1: Lightly browned, airy, and loose rice.
    • Level 2: Moderately browned crust.
    • Level 3: Golden and crispy crust.
    • Level 4: Darker, extra crispy crust.
  3. Monitor: The rice cooker features a timer for controlled preparation. The cooking process will adjust based on the selected browning level.
  4. Serve Tahdig: Once cooking is complete, carefully invert the inner pot onto a serving platter to reveal the Tahdig.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and performance of your rice cooker.

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the rice cooker from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Inner Pot and Lid: The inner pot and lid should be washed by hand with warm, soapy water. Use a soft sponge or cloth to avoid scratching the non-stick coating of the inner pot. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  3. Main Unit: Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Never immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
  4. Heating Plate: If any rice or food particles are stuck to the heating plate, gently wipe them off with a damp cloth. Do not use sharp objects that could damage the heating element.
  5. Storage: Store the cleaned and dried rice cooker in a cool, dry place.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your rice cooker, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Appliance does not turn on:
    • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the appliance and a working electrical outlet.
    • Check if the control dial is turned to a cooking level (not 'OFF').
    • Verify that the electrical outlet is functioning by plugging in another appliance.
  • Rice is undercooked or too hard:
    • Ensure the correct rice-to-water ratio was used. Add slightly more water next time.
    • Make sure the lid was properly closed during cooking.
    • Do not open the lid frequently during cooking, as this releases steam and heat.
  • Rice is overcooked or mushy:
    • Reduce the amount of water used for cooking.
    • Ensure the rice is not left on 'Keep Warm' for excessively long periods after cooking.
  • Tahdig is not forming or is too light/dark:
    • Adjust the control dial to a higher number for a crispier Tahdig, or a lower number for a lighter one.
    • Ensure the inner pot is clean and dry before adding rice and water.
