3. Attaching Anti-Splinter Protection

Attach the provided anti-splinter protection shields to both grinding wheels. Ensure they are positioned correctly to deflect sparks and debris away from the operator. Tighten all fasteners securely.

4. Electrical Connection

Connect the grinder to a standard 230 V power outlet. Ensure the power supply matches the specifications of the grinder. Do not use extension cords unless absolutely necessary, and if so, ensure they are rated for the grinder's power requirements.

Operating Instructions

1. Pre-Operation Checks

  • Verify the grinder is securely mounted.
  • Ensure grinding wheels are properly installed and not damaged.
  • Check that anti-splinter guards are in place and adjusted correctly.
  • Confirm the work area is clear of obstructions and flammable materials.
  • Wear all required PPE.

2. Starting the Grinder

Press the ON switch to start the grinder. Allow the wheels to reach full operating speed (2850 RPM) before beginning any grinding task.

3. Grinding Procedure

  • Hold the workpiece firmly against the tool rest.
  • Apply light, even pressure to the grinding wheel. Avoid excessive force, which can damage the wheel or workpiece.
  • Move the workpiece consistently across the wheel to ensure even wear and a smooth finish.
  • For sharpening, maintain a consistent angle.
  • Do not grind soft materials like wood or plastic.

4. Stopping the Grinder

Press the OFF switch to stop the grinder. The wheels will coast to a stop. Do not touch the wheels until they have completely stopped. In an emergency, press the red emergency stop button.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Promac 316 E Double Grinder. Always unplug the grinder from the power source before performing any maintenance.

1. Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the grinder to remove dust and grinding debris. Use a brush or compressed air.
  • Ensure ventilation openings are clear to prevent overheating.

2. Grinding Wheel Replacement

Grinding wheels wear down over time and must be replaced when their diameter significantly decreases or if they become damaged. Use only 150 mm diameter grinding wheels compatible with the Promac 316 E.

  1. Unplug the grinder.
  2. Remove the anti-splinter guard and wheel cover.
  3. Loosen the retaining nut holding the grinding wheel. Note the direction of the nut's thread (often left-hand thread on one side).
  4. Carefully remove the old wheel and replace it with a new one, ensuring it is seated correctly on the arbor.
  5. Re-attach the retaining nut and tighten it securely, but do not overtighten.
  6. Replace the wheel cover and anti-splinter guard.
  7. Before use, perform a test run to ensure the new wheel runs smoothly without wobble.

3. Tool Rest Adjustment

Adjust the tool rests as needed to maintain a small gap (approximately 1.5 mm) between the rest and the grinding wheel. This prevents workpieces from getting caught.
