4. Setup

Proper installation is crucial for the efficient and safe operation of your pedestal pump. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Placement: Position the pump in the center of the sump pit, ensuring it rests on a solid, level surface. The base of the pump should be elevated slightly from the bottom of the pit to prevent sediment intake.
  2. Discharge Pipe Connection: Connect a 1-1/4 inch discharge pipe to the pump's outlet. Use appropriate fittings and sealants to ensure a watertight connection. It is recommended to install a check valve in the discharge line to prevent water from flowing back into the sump pit.
  3. Electrical Connection: Plug the 8 ft power cord into a dedicated, properly grounded 120V AC electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for added safety. Do not use extension cords.
  4. Float Switch Adjustment: The vertical float switch controls the pump's on/off cycles. Adjust the float rod to set the desired 'on' and 'off' water levels. Ensure the float can move freely without obstruction within the sump pit. The 'on' level should be high enough to prevent frequent cycling, and the 'off' level should be low enough to adequately drain the pit.

5. Operating Instructions

The Acquaer PEP033 Pedestal Pump is designed for automatic operation once properly installed.

  1. Initial Test: After installation, manually fill the sump pit with water to observe the pump's operation. The pump should turn on when the water level reaches the 'on' setting of the float switch and turn off when the water level drops to the 'off' setting.
  2. Automatic Operation: The pump will automatically activate when the water level in the sump pit rises and lifts the float switch to its 'on' position. It will continue to pump water until the float switch drops to its 'off' position.
  3. Continuous Monitoring: Periodically check the sump pit and pump operation, especially during heavy rainfall, to ensure it is functioning correctly.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your pump.

  • Disconnect Power: Always disconnect the pump from the power source before performing any maintenance or inspection.
  • Inspect Float Switch: Regularly check the float switch for any obstructions, debris, or signs of wear. Ensure it moves freely.
  • Clean Intake/Filter: Periodically remove any debris, dirt, or sediment that may have accumulated around the pump's intake or filter area. A clogged intake can reduce pump efficiency and lead to premature failure.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the power cord, discharge pipe, and pump housing for any visible damage. Replace damaged components immediately.
  • Winterization (if applicable): If the pump is installed in an area subject to freezing temperatures and will not be used, remove it from the sump pit, clean it thoroughly, and store it in a dry, frost-free location.
