Setup Instructions
1. Attaching the Video Head to a Tripod
- Ensure your tripod has a 3/8" mounting screw.
- Align the base of the VH-10X with the tripod's mounting screw.
- Rotate the video head clockwise onto the tripod until it is securely tightened.
2. Attaching the Quick Release Plate to Your Camera
- Locate the VP-90 quick release plate.
- Attach the quick release plate to the bottom of your camera using the provided 1/4" or 3/8" screw. Ensure it is firmly tightened to prevent camera rotation.
3. Mounting the Camera onto the Video Head
- Ensure the quick release plate lock on the video head is in the open position.
- Slide the camera (with the attached quick release plate) into the receiver on the video head.
- Push the quick release plate forward until the safety lock engages, then firmly close the quick release plate lock.
- Always double-check that the camera is securely locked in place before releasing your grip.
4. Adjusting the Telescoping Handle
- The telescoping handle can be attached to either the left or right side of the video head.
- Loosen the handle locking knob, insert the handle, and tighten the knob securely.
- To extend or retract the handle, twist the handle grip counter-clockwise to loosen, adjust to the desired length, and twist clockwise to tighten.
5. Balancing Your Camera
Proper balancing is crucial for smooth operation and to prevent accidental tilting. The VH-10X features a counter-balance mechanism (2 kg / 4.4 lb.) and dual bubble levels.
- With the camera mounted, unlock the tilt mechanism.
- Adjust the position of the quick release plate forward or backward until the camera remains level without assistance. This indicates proper balance.
- Use the dual bubble levels to ensure the head is perfectly horizontal for accurate panning.
Operating Instructions
1. Panning (Horizontal Movement)
- The VH-10X offers 360-degree panning.
- To adjust the panning drag, rotate the panning drag knob. There are four distinct positions, including a free-rotating zero setting for minimal resistance.
- To lock the panning movement, fully tighten the panning lock knob.
2. Tilting (Vertical Movement)
- The head allows for tilting from +90 degrees to -70 degrees.
- The tilt drag can be adjusted using the dedicated tilt drag knob. Rotate it to increase or decrease resistance for smoother or faster tilt movements.
- To lock the tilting movement, fully tighten the tilt lock knob.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the video head. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying.
- Avoid Chemicals: Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish and internal components.
- Storage: When not in use, store the video head in its protective carry case in a dry, dust-free environment.
- Lubrication: The fluid mechanism is factory-sealed and does not require user lubrication. Attempting to lubricate internal parts may void the warranty.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Camera not securely mounted. | Quick release plate not fully engaged or lock not tightened. | Ensure the quick release plate is fully slid into the receiver and the safety lock is engaged. Firmly close the quick release plate lock. |
| Panning/Tilting movement is stiff or jerky. | Drag knobs are too tight, or head is not properly balanced. | Loosen the panning/tilting drag knobs. Re-balance the camera by adjusting the quick release plate position. |
| Camera tilts forward/backward when released. | Camera is not properly balanced on the quick release plate. | Adjust the quick release plate's position on the head until the camera remains level without assistance. |
| Bubble level not centered. | Tripod legs are not level. | Adjust the tripod legs until the bubble level on the VH-10X indicates a level position. |
