1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the Betus Digital Travel Alarm Clock, Model A.Clock.Animated.Horse. It covers setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal use of your device. This compact, battery-operated clock features a large LCD display with white backlight, showing time, date, day, and temperature. It also includes an alarm with snooze function and a countdown timer.

2. Product Overview

2.1 Front Display

The front LCD display shows the current time (AM/PM indicator), month, date, day of the week, and temperature. Alarm and snooze icons will appear when activated.

2.2 Back Controls and Components

The back of the clock houses the control buttons and the battery compartment.

  • TIMER: Used to activate and set the countdown timer.
  • UP/12/24: Used to increase values during setting and toggle between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats.
  • SET: Used to enter and confirm settings for time, date, and alarm.
  • DOWN/°C/°F: Used to decrease values during setting and toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.
  • MODE: Used to switch between Time mode and Alarm mode.
  • SPEAKER: Alarm sound output.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the clock (refer to Figure 2.2).
  2. Open the battery cover.
  3. Insert one CR2032 button cell battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery cover securely.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Setting Time Format (12/24 Hour)

In Time mode (normal display), press the UP/12/24 button to toggle between 12-hour (with AM/PM indicator) and 24-hour time formats.

4.2 Setting Time and Date

It is crucial to set the correct year first, as the day of the week is automatically calculated based on the year, month, and date.

  1. In Time mode, press the SET button once. The hour digits will flash.
  2. Use the UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F buttons to adjust the hour.
  3. Press SET again. The minute digits will flash. Adjust minutes using UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F.
  4. Press SET again. The year digits will flash. Adjust the year using UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F.
  5. Press SET again. The month digits will flash. Adjust the month using UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F.
  6. Press SET again. The date digits will flash. Adjust the date using UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F.
  7. Press SET one last time to exit the setting mode. The day of the week will automatically update.

4.3 Setting Alarm

  1. Press the MODE button once to enter Alarm mode. The alarm time will be displayed.
  2. Press the SET button. The alarm hour digits will flash. Use UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F to set the desired alarm hour.
  3. Press SET again. The alarm minute digits will flash. Use UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F to set the desired alarm minutes.
  4. Press SET again to cycle through snooze time settings (default is 5 minutes, adjustable). Use UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F to adjust.
  5. Press SET again to cycle through 9 available alarm tones. Use UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F to select your preferred tone.
  6. Press SET one last time to exit alarm setting mode.

4.4 Turning Alarm On/Off and Snooze Function

  • To Activate/Deactivate Alarm: In Alarm mode, press the UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F button to turn the alarm on or off. A bell icon and a speaker icon will appear on the display when the alarm is active. If only the time is displayed without these icons, the alarm is off.
  • Alarm Duration: When the alarm sounds, it will ring for 1 minute.
  • Snooze Function: During an active alarm, press any button (except SET) to activate the snooze function. The alarm will sound again after the set snooze interval (e.g., 5 minutes). The snooze function can be used twice.
  • To Stop Alarm: To completely stop the alarm from sounding and disable snooze, press the SET button during the alarm or snooze period.

4.5 Using the Countdown Timer

  1. Press the TIMER button to enter countdown timer mode.
  2. Press the SET button to set the desired countdown time (hours and minutes). Use UP/12/24 or DOWN/°C/°F to adjust values.
  3. Press the TIMER button again to start the countdown.
  4. To pause/resume the timer, press TIMER. To reset, press SET while paused.

4.6 Backlight Operation

A button located below the digital clock display activates the backlight. Press this button to illuminate the display for approximately 8 seconds.

4.7 Temperature Unit Selection

In Time mode, press the DOWN/°C/°F button to toggle the temperature display between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

When the display becomes dim or the clock functions erratically, it is time to replace the CR2032 button cell battery. Follow the steps in Section 3.1 for battery installation.

5.2 Cleaning

Wipe the clock with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the clock in water.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Incorrect Day of the Week: Ensure you have set the correct year during the time setting process (refer to Section 4.2). The day of the week is automatically calculated.
  • Alarm Not Sounding/Stopping: Verify that the alarm is activated (bell and speaker icons visible in Alarm mode). To stop a sounding alarm, press the SET button.
  • Display is Dim or Blank: Replace the CR2032 battery.
  • Backlight Not Working: Ensure the backlight button is pressed firmly. The backlight is designed to stay on for 8 seconds only.
  • Difficulty Setting Time/Alarm: Carefully follow the step-by-step instructions in Section 4. If issues persist, please contact customer support.
