Setup and Installation

The Mr Beams MBN580 NetBright Path Lights are designed for quick and easy installation. No electrical wiring is required.

1. Battery Installation and Network Configuration

Each light requires C batteries (not included). To install batteries and configure the NetBright network settings:

  1. Carefully open the light unit to access the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the required C batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Locate the internal switches for NetBright network configuration. These are typically small white switches. Move both switches from the "on" position to positions "1" and "2" to enable networking with other NetBright lights.
  4. Identify the "Glow" switch. If you desire a continuous low-level marker light when it's dark, move this switch to the "Glow" position.
  5. Close the light unit securely.

2. Mounting Options

Choose your preferred installation method:

Ground Installation (Path Light)

  1. Attach the ground stake to the base of the light unit.
  2. Select a location along a path or in a garden bed where lighting is desired.
  3. Firmly push the ground stake into the soil until the light is stable and at the desired height.

Surface Installation (Deck/Post Light)

  1. Choose a flat surface such as a deck post, stair riser, or wall.
  2. Use the provided screws and anchors to securely mount the light unit. Ensure the motion sensor is facing the area where motion detection is desired.

Operating Instructions

The Mr Beams MBN580 lights operate automatically based on motion and light levels.

  • Motion Activation: The lights will automatically turn on when motion is detected within a 15-foot range in dark conditions.
  • NetBright Synchronization: Due to NetBright technology, when one light in your network detects motion, all other lights configured to the same network zone will also activate.
  • Auto Shut-Off: After approximately 20 seconds of no motion detection, the lights will automatically turn off to conserve battery power.
  • GlowMode (Optional): If the internal "Glow" switch is enabled, the light will emit a continuous, low-level illumination in dark conditions, serving as a marker light. Upon motion detection, it will switch to full brightness.

For optimal performance, ensure the motion sensor is not obstructed and is positioned to cover the desired detection area.

Understanding NetBright Zones

You can create up to four separate lighting zones. This allows you to have different groups of lights activate independently. To configure zones, refer to the internal switches mentioned in the "Battery Installation" section. Each zone is set by a unique combination of switch positions (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4). Ensure all lights intended for the same zone have identical switch settings.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

The lights require C batteries. Battery life is approximately one year under normal usage. When the light output diminishes or the light stops activating, it's time to replace the batteries.

  1. Carefully open the light unit as done during initial setup.
  2. Remove the old C batteries.
  3. Insert new C batteries, observing correct polarity.
  4. Securely close the light unit.

Note: Using high-quality alkaline batteries is recommended for optimal performance and battery life. Rechargeable batteries may also be used, but their performance and lifespan can vary.

Cleaning

Wipe the light's exterior with a soft, damp cloth as needed to remove dirt and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Light does not turn on.
  • Batteries are dead or incorrectly installed.
  • Insufficient darkness (light sensor detects ambient light).
  • No motion detected.
  • Internal switches are not set correctly.
  • Replace batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Test in a completely dark environment.
  • Ensure motion sensor is clear and facing the desired area.
  • Verify internal network switches are set to "1" and "2".
Lights activate randomly or too frequently.
  • Motion sensor is detecting unintended movement (e.g., pets, moving branches).
  • Interference from other electronic devices.
  • Adjust the light's position or angle to minimize false triggers.
  • Ensure no other devices are interfering with the NetBright signal.
Lights in a network do not all turn on.
  • Lights are not configured to the same NetBright zone.
  • One or more lights have dead batteries.
  • Lights are too far apart for reliable communication.
  • Verify internal network switches are identical for all lights in the desired zone.
  • Check and replace batteries in all lights.
  • Reduce the distance between lights or add more lights to bridge gaps.
Poor battery life.
  • Frequent activation due to high traffic or false triggers.
  • "GlowMode" is enabled, consuming more power.
  • Low-quality batteries.
  • Adjust placement to reduce unnecessary activations.
  • Disable "GlowMode" if continuous low light is not essential.
  • Use high-quality alkaline batteries.
Light stopped working after rain.
  • Water ingress.
  • Ensure the unit is properly sealed after battery changes. While designed for outdoor use, extreme weather can sometimes affect performance. If water is found inside, allow it to dry completely before re-testing. If issues persist, contact customer support.
