5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install the Even Feed Walking Foot on your sewing machine:

  1. Prepare Your Machine: Turn off your sewing machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Raise the presser foot lever.
  2. Remove Current Presser Foot: Unscrew the thumb screw that holds your current presser foot in place. Carefully remove the existing presser foot.
  3. Attach Walking Foot:
    • Position the walking foot so that the "fork" or "lever" arm of the walking foot (the part that extends upwards) rests over the needle clamp screw.
    • Align the hole in the walking foot with the presser foot bar.
  4. Secure the Foot: Tighten the thumb screw to firmly secure the walking foot to the presser foot bar. Ensure the fork arm remains over the needle clamp screw.
  5. Attach Quilting Guide (Optional): If using the quilting guide, slide its L-shaped end into the small hole at the back of the walking foot. Adjust its position for your desired seam allowance.

6. Operating Instructions

The Even Feed Walking Foot is particularly effective for materials that tend to slip, stretch, or are difficult to feed evenly. It works by moving the fabric layers together under the needle, preventing distortion.

  1. Fabric Placement: Place your fabric layers under the walking foot. Ensure they are aligned as desired.
  2. Lower Presser Foot: Lower the presser foot lever. The fork arm of the walking foot will move up and down with the needle bar, activating the upper feed dogs of the walking foot.
  3. Sewing: Begin sewing at a consistent, moderate speed. The walking foot will help to feed both the top and bottom layers of fabric evenly through the machine.
  4. Adjusting Stitch Length: For very stretchy or slippery fabrics, you may find it beneficial to slightly increase your stitch length to prevent stretching.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your YEQIN Even Feed Walking Foot, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Cleaning: After each use, gently brush away any lint or fabric fibers that may have accumulated around the foot's mechanisms.
  • Storage: Store the walking foot in a dry, clean place, preferably in its original packaging or a dedicated sewing accessory box, to protect it from dust and damage.
  • Lubrication: The walking foot contains moving parts. If you notice any stiffness or unusual noise, a small drop of sewing machine oil on the moving joints may be beneficial. Consult a sewing machine technician if unsure.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the foot for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary to prevent damage to your machine or fabric.
