Operating Instructions
Patch Selection and Editing
The MS-3 allows you to store and recall numerous patches, each containing a unique combination of internal effects and external loop settings. Use footswitches 1-4 to select patches within a bank. The UP/DOWN footswitches (typically assigned to footswitches 2 and 3 in bank mode) allow you to navigate through different banks.

To edit a patch, press the EDIT button. Use the rotary knobs and PAGE buttons to adjust parameters for internal effects, external loops, and other settings. Press WRITE to save your changes.
Internal Effects and External Loops
The MS-3 features 112 types of internal effects, covering a wide range of sounds for both guitar and bass. These can be combined with up to three external pedals connected via the dedicated loops. The order of effects and loops can be customized within each patch.

Tuner Function
To access the built-in tuner, hold down the MEMORY/MANUAL footswitch (typically footswitch 4) for more than 2 seconds. The display will show the tuning interface, allowing you to accurately tune your instrument.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BOSS MS-3, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
- Storage: Store the unit in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
- Power: Always use the specified AC adapter. Disconnect the power when the unit is not in use for extended periods.
- Connections: Periodically check all cables and connections for wear and tear. Replace damaged cables immediately.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your MS-3, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- No Sound: Check all cable connections, ensure the power is on, and verify that the volume levels on the MS-3, your amplifier, and your instrument are appropriately set. Confirm that no effects are bypassed unintentionally.
- Unexpected Sound/Noise: Ensure all cables are properly shielded and connected. Check for ground loops. Verify that external pedals are functioning correctly and that their levels are matched with the MS-3.
- Effects Not Activating: Confirm that the desired effects or loops are enabled within the current patch. Check the LED indicators for each loop and internal effect.
- MIDI Control Issues: Verify MIDI cable connections and ensure MIDI settings on the MS-3 and connected devices are correctly configured (MIDI channels, program change messages).
