1. Product Overview
The Tamron 24-70mm F/2.8 G2 Di VC USD G2 is a high-speed zoom lens designed for Nikon F-mount cameras. It is engineered to maximize the performance of modern high-pixel-density cameras, offering exceptional image quality through specialized, high-quality glass materials that enhance optical transmittance. The lens features Tamron's proprietary eBAND Coating to effectively reduce ghosting and flare, making it suitable for various lighting conditions, including backlit scenes. Advanced autofocus technology ensures precision and speed, while the Vibration Compensation (VC) system provides 5 stops of image stabilization, as rated by CIPA standards. Its Fluorine Coating and moisture-resistant construction make it a robust choice for outdoor photography. A built-in lock on the lens hood provides additional protection. This lens offers a versatile focal range suitable for landscapes, portraits, and general photography.

4. Operating the Lens
4.1 Focus Mode Switch (AF/MF)
This switch allows you to select between Autofocus (AF) and Manual Focus (MF).
- AF (Autofocus): The camera automatically focuses on the subject.
- MF (Manual Focus): You manually adjust the focus ring to achieve focus.
4.2 Vibration Compensation (VC) Switch
The VC mechanism reduces camera shake, allowing for sharper images in low light or at slower shutter speeds.
- VC ON: Activates the Vibration Compensation function.
- VC OFF: Deactivates the Vibration Compensation function. It is recommended to turn VC OFF when using a tripod.
4.3 Zoom Ring
Rotate the zoom ring to change the focal length of the lens, ranging from 24mm (wide-angle) to 70mm (telephoto).
4.4 Zoom Lock Switch
This switch locks the zoom ring at the 24mm position to prevent the lens from extending under its own weight during transport or when pointed downwards.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a soft, clean microfiber cloth to gently wipe dust and smudges from the lens surfaces.
- For stubborn marks, use a lens cleaning solution specifically designed for optical glass, applied to a cleaning cloth, not directly to the lens.
- Avoid touching the lens elements with your fingers.
5.2 Storage
- Always attach the front and rear lens caps when the lens is not in use.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- If storing for an extended period, consider using a desiccant to prevent mold growth.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Autofocus Issues
- Lens not focusing: Ensure the AF/MF switch on the lens is set to AF. Check camera settings for focus mode.
- Slow or inaccurate autofocus: Ensure there is sufficient light on the subject. Clean lens contacts on both the lens and camera body. Update camera and lens firmware if available.
6.2 Image Stabilization (VC) Issues
- VC not working: Ensure the VC switch on the lens is set to ON.
- Blurry images with VC ON: If using a tripod, turn VC OFF. Excessive movement during exposure can still cause blur.
6.3 Zoom Ring Sticking/Loose
- Zoom ring feels stiff: This can sometimes occur with new lenses or in cold conditions. Gentle, consistent use may alleviate it. Do not force the ring.
- Zoom creep: Use the zoom lock switch to secure the lens at 24mm during transport.
