1. Introduction
The Exo Terra 300 Watt Electronic ON/OFF Thermostat is designed to provide precise temperature control for terrarium heating systems. It helps maintain stable temperature conditions, preventing overheating and undercooling, which is crucial for the well-being of reptiles and amphibians. This thermostat utilizes an electronic Triac switch for accurate temperature regulation, minimizing temperature fluctuations within the terrarium. It is suitable for use with various heating devices such as heat mats, heat cables, and ceramic heaters up to 300 Watts.
2. Safety Instructions
- Read all instructions carefully before use.
- This device is for indoor use only. Do not expose to water or extreme humidity beyond the waterproof sensor.
- Ensure the total wattage of connected heating devices does not exceed 300 Watts.
- Do not operate the thermostat with a damaged cord or plug.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Always unplug the unit from the power outlet before performing any maintenance or adjustments.
- The waterproof remote sensor can be used in moist terrariums and aquatic environments, but the main unit must remain dry.
3. Package Contents
- Exo Terra ON/Off Thermostat (300 Watt)
- Waterproof Remote Sensor
4. Setup and Installation
- Connect Heating Device: Plug your heat mat, heat cable, or ceramic heater into the power outlet on the Exo Terra Thermostat unit. Ensure the heating device's wattage does not exceed 300 Watts.
- Position Sensor: Place the waterproof remote sensor in the desired location within the terrarium where temperature control is critical. For substrate heaters, place the sensor directly on the substrate surface or slightly embedded. For ambient air heating, suspend the sensor in the air. Ensure the sensor is not directly exposed to water if used in an aquatic environment, but its waterproof nature allows for use in high humidity.
- Power On: Plug the thermostat's main power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

5. Operation
- Set Temperature: Use the recessed dial on the thermostat to set the preferred temperature. Rotate the dial to align with the desired temperature setting, which ranges from 20°C to 35°C (68°F to 95°F).
- Monitor Indicator: The red LED heat indicator light will illuminate when the connected heating device is active and providing heat. Once the desired temperature at the sensor location is reached, the LED will turn off, indicating the heating device has been switched off. The thermostat will cycle the heating device on and off to maintain the set temperature.
- Optimal Temperature Range: Research the Preferred Optimum Temperature Range (POTR) for your specific reptile or amphibian species. Adjust the thermostat setting to create appropriate temperature gradients within the terrarium, allowing your animals to thermoregulate effectively.
