HydroMaster™ Drum/Wall Mount Venturi Mixer Model 208 Instruction Manual

Your guide to the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your HydroMaster™ Model 208 Venturi Mixer.

Introduction

The HydroMaster™ Model 208 is a versatile drum or wall-mounted proportioner designed to automatically mix liquid concentrates with water. This non-electric, water-powered system dispenses the diluted solution into any container, ensuring consistent and accurate dilution ratios. It eliminates the variability of manual mixing, enhancing the performance of your concentrated cleaning products, coolants, or fertilizers.

This mixer utilizes the Venturi principle, where water passing over an orifice creates suction to draw concentrate from its container, mixing it with the water. Concentration is adjusted by changing the metering tip size. The HydroMaster™ Model 208 is ideal for various applications including all-purpose cleaners, strippers, degreasers, soluble oil, synthetic coolants, and fertilizers.

Important Safety Note: These units cannot operate with any back pressure. They are designed to fill a pail or nearby container and cannot be used with any type of sprayer or shut-off valve on the discharge side. The outlet hose must NOT be connected to any device that can restrict the flow.

Setup

Before setup, ensure you have all components: the proportioner unit, 4 ft. suction tube with foot valve, 4 ft. discharge tube, and the set of 14 metering tips.

Mounting Options

Connecting Water Supply

Connect a standard water hose to the inlet of the proportioner. Ensure a backflow preventer is installed in accordance with local regulations, as this is required in some areas.

Connecting Suction and Discharge Tubes

  1. Insert the 4 ft. suction tube with the foot valve into your concentrate container. The foot valve should rest at the bottom of the container to ensure continuous draw.
  2. Attach the 4 ft. discharge tube to the outlet of the proportioner. This tube will direct the diluted solution into your desired container (e.g., a pail).

Selecting Metering Tip

The HydroMaster™ Model 208 comes with 14 metering tips, allowing for mix ratios from 0.9% to 50%. Select the appropriate metering tip based on the desired dilution ratio for your concentrate. Insert the chosen tip into the designated slot on the proportioner. Refer to your concentrate's instructions for recommended dilution ratios.

Operating Instructions

  1. Ensure the concentrate container has sufficient product and the suction tube is fully submerged.
  2. Position the discharge tube into the container you wish to fill with the diluted solution. Remember, this container must not create any back pressure.
  3. Slowly turn on the water supply to the HydroMaster™ unit. Water flow will activate the Venturi mechanism, drawing the concentrate and mixing it.
  4. Monitor the filling process. Once the desired volume is reached, turn off the water supply.
  5. Always ensure the discharge hose is free and clear, allowing for unrestricted flow. Never kink, block, or attach a sprayer/valve to the discharge hose.

Caution: Accuracy of dilution can be affected by water pressure and the level of concentrate in the container. Maintain consistent water pressure for optimal performance.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your HydroMaster™ Model 208.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HydroMaster™ Model 208, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No concentrate drawn / Weak dilution
  • Insufficient water pressure
  • Clogged metering tip
  • Suction tube kinked or blocked
  • Foot valve clogged
  • Concentrate container empty
  • Back pressure on discharge line
  • Ensure water supply pressure is adequate (minimum 40 psi recommended).
  • Clean or replace metering tip.
  • Straighten or clear suction tube.
  • Clean foot valve.
  • Refill concentrate container.
  • Ensure discharge line is completely unrestricted.
Excessive dilution / Too strong solution
  • Incorrect metering tip installed
  • Metering tip missing
  • Install the correct metering tip for desired dilution.
  • Install a metering tip.
Water leaks from unit
  • Loose connections
  • Damaged O-rings or seals
  • Tighten all connections.
  • Inspect and replace any damaged O-rings or seals.

If problems persist after attempting these solutions, please contact Hydro Systems customer support for further assistance.
