2. Safety Information
WARNING: Proposition 65 Warning
This product can expose you to chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, please visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Always read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. The SDS provides detailed information on product hazards, safe handling, and emergency procedures. It is available from your supplier or 3M.
General Safety Precautions:
- Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area. If adequate ventilation is not available, use appropriate respiratory protection.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate chemical-resistant gloves (e.g., nitrile, butyl rubber) and eye protection (safety glasses with side shields or goggles) to prevent skin and eye contact.
- Skin Contact: In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Do not use solvents.
- Eye Contact: In case of eye contact, flush immediately with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
- Ingestion: Do not ingest. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Get immediate medical attention.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials and sources of ignition. Keep containers tightly closed.
- Disposal: Dispose of contents and container in accordance with local, regional, national, and international regulations.
3. Setup and Preparation
3.1 Surface Preparation
For optimal adhesion, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dust, and other contaminants. Abrading surfaces with sandpaper or abrasive pads, followed by cleaning with an appropriate solvent (e.g., isopropyl alcohol), can improve bond strength.
3.2 Cartridge and Dispensing Equipment
The 3M Scotch-Weld DP8805NS adhesive is supplied in a dual-chamber cartridge. It requires a 3M EPX applicator and a mixing nozzle for proper dispensing and mixing.
- Remove the cap from the cartridge.
- Load the cartridge into the 3M EPX applicator gun.
- Attach a new 3M EPX mixing nozzle to the cartridge. Ensure it is securely twisted into place.
- Dispense a small amount of adhesive (a bead approximately 2-3 inches long) onto a disposable surface to ensure proper mixing of both components. This purges any unmixed adhesive from the nozzle.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Adhesive Application
Once the cartridge is prepared and purged, apply the mixed adhesive to one of the surfaces to be bonded. The adhesive has a working time of approximately 4 minutes at 72°F (22°C). Apply enough adhesive to ensure complete coverage of the bond area without excessive squeeze-out.
4.2 Assembly and Clamping
Assemble the parts immediately after adhesive application, within the 4-minute working time. Apply sufficient pressure to ensure good contact between the bonding surfaces. Clamping or fixturing may be necessary to hold the parts in place until the adhesive develops sufficient handling strength.
4.3 Curing
The adhesive will achieve handling strength within a short period, but a full cure typically takes 24 hours at 72°F (22°C). Lower temperatures will extend the cure time, while higher temperatures will accelerate it. Do not subject the bonded assembly to full stress until the adhesive has fully cured.

5. Maintenance and Storage
5.1 Storage
Store the 3M Scotch-Weld DP8805NS adhesive in its original, unopened containers in a cool, dry place, ideally between 65°F (18°C) and 80°F (27°C). Avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Proper storage ensures the product maintains its stated shelf life.
5.2 Cleaning
Clean dispensing equipment immediately after use. Uncured adhesive can be removed with appropriate solvents (e.g., acetone, methyl ethyl ketone), following solvent safety guidelines. Cured adhesive is difficult to remove and may require mechanical abrasion.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Poor Adhesion
- Cause: Improper surface preparation. Solution: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and properly abraded.
- Cause: Incorrect mix ratio. Solution: Verify the mixing nozzle is correctly attached and purged.
- Cause: Expired or improperly stored adhesive. Solution: Check product expiry date and storage conditions.
6.2 Slow or Incomplete Cure
- Cause: Low ambient temperature. Solution: Ensure application and curing occur within recommended temperature ranges.
- Cause: Incorrect mix ratio. Solution: Purge the nozzle thoroughly before application.
- Cause: Insufficient adhesive quantity. Solution: Apply an adequate amount of adhesive to the bond line.
