Model: Crimson II

Introduction

The Alesis Crimson II is a 5-piece electronic drum kit designed to provide an authentic drumming experience with advanced features. It incorporates Alesis mesh drumheads, offering a realistic feel and expressive playability. This kit includes an 8-inch kick pad, a 12-inch dual-zone snare, two 8-inch dual-zone rack toms, and a 10-inch dual-zone floor tom. Additionally, it features a 12-inch hi-hat with pedal, two 12-inch crash cymbals with choke functionality, and a 14-inch triple-zone ride cymbal. The premium chrome rack with a separate double-braced snare stand ensures stability during performance.

The Crimson II module is equipped with 74 drum kits (54 factory presets and 20 user-customizable kits), over 671 sounds, and 120 built-in play-along tracks. It includes a metronome, a real-time recorder, and a 1/8-inch auxiliary input for connecting external audio devices. Connectivity options include 1/4-inch stereo outputs, a headphone output, and a USB-MIDI output for integration with virtual instrument plugins. The module also supports loading custom .WAV samples via a USB stick, allowing for extensive sound customization.

Setup

1. Unpacking and Assembly

Carefully unpack all components from the box. It is recommended to keep the packaging for future transport or storage. Begin by assembling the chrome rack according to the included diagram. Ensure all clamps and bolts are securely tightened to prevent movement during play.

2. Mounting Pads and Cymbals

Attach the drum pads and cymbals to the rack using the provided mounts. Position the kick pad, snare, toms, and cymbals in a comfortable playing arrangement. The snare pad should be mounted on its dedicated double-braced stand for optimal stability.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Alesis Crimson II kit.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the module, pads, and rack. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage surfaces.
  • Cable Management: Periodically check all cables for wear and tear. Ensure they are neatly routed and secured to prevent accidental disconnections or damage.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the kit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Pad Care: The mesh drumheads are durable but can be damaged by sharp objects. Avoid striking them with anything other than drumsticks.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Crimson II kit.

  • No Sound:
Check: Ensure the module is powered on, headphones are properly connected, or external speakers/amplifier are turned on and connected to the L/MONO and R OUTPUTS. Verify the Master Volume and Phones volume knobs are turned up.
  • Pad Not Responding:
Check: Confirm the pad's cable is securely connected to both the pad and the correct input on the module. Inspect the cable for any visible damage. Try swapping the cable with a known working one. Check the module's settings to ensure the pad is enabled and its sensitivity is appropriately set.
  • Inconsistent Hi-Hat Response:
Check: Ensure the hi-hat pedal is correctly connected and calibrated. Adjust the hi-hat sensitivity and pedal settings within the module's menu. Sometimes, recalibrating the pedal can resolve inconsistencies.
  • Snare or Kick Pad Double Triggering / Inadvertent Doubles:
Check: This can occur if the pad sensitivity is too high or if the retrigger cancel setting is too low. Adjust these parameters in the module's utility or pad settings menu. Experiment with different values to find the optimal response. Ensure the pad is mounted securely and not vibrating excessively.
  • Distorted Sound:
Check: Reduce the volume levels on the module and any connected audio equipment. Ensure all cables are fully inserted and not damaged.
  • Module Not Powering On:
Check: Verify the power adapter is securely connected to the module and a working power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is active.
