1. Important Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before using the Midea MIND179ST-B Induction Cooktop. Retain this manual for future reference.

  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the cooktop is connected to a dedicated 120V, 15A (or higher) grounded electrical outlet. Do not use extension cords or adapters.
  • Hot Surface Warning: The ceramic plate may remain hot after cooking due to residual heat from the cookware. Avoid touching the surface immediately after use.
  • Ventilation: Always ensure adequate ventilation around the cooktop. Do not block the air vents located on the bottom and sides.
  • Cookware: Only use induction-compatible cookware. Non-magnetic pots and pans will not heat.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the cooktop during operation and while it is cooling down. Utilize the child lock feature.
  • Foreign Objects: Do not place metallic objects such as knives, forks, spoons, or lids on the cooktop surface as they can become hot.
  • Cleaning: Always unplug the cooktop before cleaning. Do not immerse the unit in water or any other liquid.

2.1 Components

  • Ceramic Glass Surface: The main cooking area.
  • Induction Coil: Located beneath the ceramic surface, generates electromagnetic fields to heat compatible cookware.
  • Control Panel: Touch-sensitive interface for operating the cooktop.
  • Digital Display: Shows power levels, timer settings, and error codes.

  • Power On/Off Button: Activates or deactivates the cooktop.

3. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your induction cooktop for first use.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the cooktop from its packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Placement: Place the cooktop on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is at least 4 inches (10 cm) of clear space around all sides for proper ventilation. Do not place it near heat sources or on metallic surfaces.
  3. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V, 15A (or higher) grounded electrical outlet. The cooktop will emit a beep, and the display will briefly illuminate.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

  • To turn on, press the Power On/Off button. The display will show 'ON' or a default power level.
  • To turn off, press the Power On/Off button again.

4.2 Power Level Adjustment

The cooktop offers 10 power levels for precise temperature control.

  • After powering on, the cooktop defaults to a medium power level (e.g., level 5).
  • Use the + and - touch buttons or slide your finger along the power regulating bar to increase or decrease the power level.
  • Level 1 is the lowest (approx. 120 watts), and Level 10 is the highest (approx. 1500 watts).

4.3 Preset Cooking Functions

The cooktop includes 6 preset functions for common cooking tasks. Each function has a fixed power level that cannot be adjusted manually while the preset is active.

  • Keep Warm: Maintains food at a warm temperature.
  • Simmer: Ideal for gentle cooking and slow-simmering.
  • Timer: Activates the timer function (see section 4.4).
  • Fry: Suitable for frying and sautéing.
  • Boil: For rapid boiling of water.
  • Boost: Provides maximum power for a short period for quick heating.

To select a preset, touch the corresponding icon on the control panel. If you adjust the power level manually while a preset is active, the cooktop will switch to manual power mode.

4.4 Timer Function

The digital timer can be set for up to 3 hours.

  • Press the Timer icon. The display will show a default time or '00:00'.
  • Use the + and - buttons to adjust the desired cooking time.
  • Once the timer counts down to zero, the cooktop will automatically turn off and emit a beep.

4.5 Child Safety Lock

The child lock prevents accidental changes to settings or activation of the cooktop.

  • To activate, press and hold the Child Lock button for a few seconds until 'Loc' appears on the display. All other buttons will be disabled.
  • To deactivate, press and hold the Child Lock button again until 'Loc' disappears from the display.

5. Compatible Cookware

Induction cooktops require specific types of cookware to function. The bottom of the cookware must be magnetic.

5.1 How to Test Cookware

Place a magnet on the bottom of your pot or pan. If the magnet sticks firmly, the cookware is compatible with induction.

5.2 Recommended Cookware

  • Cast iron pots and pans.
  • Magnetic stainless steel cookware.
  • Enamel-on-steel cookware.

5.3 Incompatible Cookware

  • Aluminum, copper, glass, ceramic, or non-magnetic stainless steel.
  • Cookware with a base diameter smaller than 4.7 inches (12 cm) or larger than 10.2 inches (26 cm).
  • Cookware with uneven or concave bottoms.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your cooktop.

  • Always unplug the cooktop from the power outlet before cleaning.
  • Allow the cooktop to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Wipe the ceramic glass surface with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. For stubborn stains, use a non-abrasive ceramic cooktop cleaner.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can scratch or damage the surface.
  • Clean the control panel with a soft, damp cloth. Ensure no moisture enters the control area.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating.
  • Never immerse the cooktop in water or place it under running water.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your cooktop, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
