Setup

Power Source

The CASIO JH-12VT calculator is equipped with a dual power system, utilizing both solar power and a battery. Under sufficient lighting, the calculator will operate using solar power. In low-light conditions or when solar power is insufficient, it automatically switches to battery power.

Battery Installation (if replacement is needed)

  1. Ensure the calculator is turned off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  3. Using a small screwdriver, carefully remove the screw and slide off the cover.
  4. Insert a new LR44 button cell battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the cover and secure it with the screw.

Initial Power On

Press the AC (All Clear) button to turn on the calculator and clear any previous entries. The display should show '0'.

Operating Instructions

Basic Calculations

  • Addition (+): Enter the first number, press +, enter the second number, press =.
  • Subtraction (-): Enter the first number, press -, enter the second number, press =.
  • Multiplication (×): Enter the first number, press ×, enter the second number, press =.
  • Division (÷): Enter the first number, press ÷, enter the second number, press =.

Memory Functions

  • M+ (Memory Plus): Adds the displayed value to the memory.
  • M- (Memory Minus): Subtracts the displayed value from the memory.
  • MRC (Memory Recall/Clear): Press once to recall the memory value. Press twice to clear the memory.

Tax Calculation

The calculator features dedicated keys for tax calculations. The tax rate must be set prior to use.

  1. Setting the Tax Rate: Press SET (if available, or consult specific model instructions for tax rate setting), enter the tax rate percentage, then press TAX+ or TAX- to save.
  2. TAX+ (Add Tax): Enter the original amount, then press TAX+ to display the amount including tax.
  3. TAX- (Subtract Tax): Enter the amount including tax, then press TAX- to display the original amount before tax.

Grand Total (GT)

Press the GT key to display the grand total of all results accumulated since the last AC or GT clear operation.

Clear Functions

  • AC (All Clear): Clears all entries, memory, and operations, resetting the calculator to its initial state.
  • C (Clear Entry): Clears the last entered number or the current calculation entry without affecting previous operations or memory.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To clean the calculator, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry immediately. Do not use strong solvents or abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the casing or display.

Storage

Store the calculator in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the calculator to prevent damage to the keys or display.

Troubleshooting
