2. Safety Instructions
- Ensure the device is connected to a power source with the correct voltage as specified in the product specifications.
- Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture to prevent electric shock or fire hazards.
- Avoid placing the unit near heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other heat-producing appliances.
- Do not block any ventilation openings. Proper ventilation is essential for preventing overheating.
- Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
3. Setup and Connections
3.1. Rack Mounting
The DB Display MKII is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Secure the unit into an available rack space using appropriate rack screws (not included) through the mounting holes on the side flanges.
3.2. Audio Connections
The unit features both RCA and XLR input/output connectors for versatile integration into your audio system. Connect your audio source (e.g., mixer, amplifier output) to the "INPUT" jacks and connect the "OUTPUT" jacks to your next audio component (e.g., amplifier input, recorder).
- RCA Connections: Use standard RCA cables for unbalanced audio signals. Connect the left channel to the "L" input/output and the right channel to the "R" input/output.
- XLR Connections: Use standard XLR cables for balanced audio signals. Connect the left channel to the "LEFT IN/OUT" and the right channel to the "RIGHT IN/OUT".

3.3. Power Connection
Connect the provided DC 9V power adapter to the "DC INPUT" jack on the rear panel of the unit. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet. The unit requires DC 9V, 500mA minimum.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Powering On/Off
Locate the "POWER" switch on the front panel of the unit. Flip the switch to the "ON" position to power on the device. The LED display will illuminate. Flip the switch to the "OFF" position to power off the device.

4.2. LED Display Modes
The DB Display MKII features a multi-color LED display that visually represents audio signal levels. The LEDs typically illuminate in green for lower levels, amber for mid-range levels, and red for higher, potentially clipping, levels. This provides an intuitive visual representation of your audio dynamics.
Use the "MODE" switch on the front panel to select between "DOT" and "BAR" display modes:
- DOT Mode: In this mode, only the highest active LED in each column illuminates, creating a moving "dot" effect that tracks the peak level.
- BAR Mode: In this mode, all LEDs up to the current signal level illuminate, creating a solid "bar" that rises and falls with the audio signal.

5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are clear and not obstructed to prevent overheating.
- Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No LEDs illuminate. | Unit is not powered on or power adapter is not connected/faulty. | Check power switch, power adapter connection, and power outlet. Ensure the correct DC 9V adapter is used. |
| LEDs are on, but no signal is displayed. | No audio input signal or incorrect audio connections. | Verify audio source is active. Check all input cable connections (RCA/XLR) for proper seating and correct channel assignment. |
| LEDs are always red (clipping). | Input signal level is too high. | Reduce the output level from your audio source to prevent clipping and distortion. |
| LEDs are too dim or too bright. | No specific brightness control on this model. | Ensure ambient lighting is suitable for viewing. The brightness is fixed. |
