Introduction

Controls:

  • Volume: Adjusts the overall output level of the pedal.
  • Drive: Controls the amount of overdrive/gain.
  • Tone: Shapes the high-frequency content, from darker to brighter.
  • Gain Toggle Switch: Selects between two distinct gain stages. The up position offers a lower gain setting, while the down position engages a higher gain setting.
  • Hi-Cut Switch (Side-mounted): A recessed switch on the side of the pedal. Engaged (pushed in), it reduces high frequencies, useful for brighter amplifiers or guitars. Disengaged (out), it allows full high-frequency response.

Connections:

  • Input Jack (Right Side): Connect your guitar or the output of a preceding pedal here.
  • Output Jack (Left Side): Connect to your amplifier's input or the input of a subsequent pedal.
  • 9V DC Power Input (Top): Connect a standard 9V DC negative center power supply.
  • Remote Gain Jack (Side-mounted): Allows for external switching of the Gain Toggle Switch using a JHS Red Remote or similar latching footswitch.

Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect the included 9V DC negative center power adapter to the 9V DC input jack on the top of the pedal. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet. The pedal does not operate on battery power.
  2. Audio Connections:
    • Connect your guitar (or the output of the previous pedal in your signal chain) to the Input Jack on the right side of the Morning Glory V4.
    • Connect the Output Jack on the left side of the Morning Glory V4 to your amplifier's input (or the input of the next pedal in your signal chain).
  3. Initial Settings: For a starting point, set the Volume, Drive, and Tone knobs to the 12 o'clock position. Set the Gain Toggle Switch to the up (lower gain) position. Ensure the Hi-Cut switch is disengaged (out).

Operating Instructions

The Morning Glory V4 is designed to be highly versatile, offering a range of transparent overdrive tones. Experiment with the controls to find the sound that best suits your setup and playing style.

Engaging the Pedal:

Press the footswitch to engage or bypass the effect. The LED indicator will illuminate when the pedal is active.

Adjusting Overdrive:

  • Drive Knob: Turn clockwise for more overdrive, counter-clockwise for less.
  • Gain Toggle Switch:
    • Up Position: Provides a lower gain setting, ideal for subtle breakup and transparent boost.
    • Down Position: Engages a higher gain setting, offering more saturation and sustain.
  • Remote Gain: If using an external latching footswitch connected to the Remote Gain jack, you can toggle between the two gain stages remotely.

Tone Shaping:

  • Tone Knob: Adjust clockwise to increase treble frequencies for a brighter sound, or counter-clockwise to decrease treble for a warmer, darker tone.
  • Hi-Cut Switch: Engage this switch (push in) if your amplifier or guitar produces excessive high frequencies, or if you desire a smoother, less piercing tone. Disengage (pull out) for full high-frequency response.

Volume Control:

The Volume knob controls the overall output level. Use it to match the bypassed signal level or to provide a clean boost when the pedal is engaged.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the pedal with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cable Care: Ensure all audio and power cables are in good condition to prevent signal loss or damage.
