JHS Overdrive Preamp

The JHS Overdrive Preamp is a faithful recreation of an extremely rare, first version of the DOD 250 Overdrive Preamp. It is designed for musicians who appreciate the legendary Gray Box and Yellow Box versions and seek a must-have addition to their collection. This pedal functions as a powerful tone-shaping tool, capable of delivering a solo boost, acting as an always-on preamp, or providing transparent overdrive or distortion. It is versatile enough for any musical genre and complements any amplifier or pedal setup.

Controls

LEVEL

The "Level" control adjusts the overall output of the circuit, allowing you to cut or boost the signal.

GAIN

"Gain" adjusts the amount of gain within the overdrive circuit. Increasing "Gain" leads to more clipping by pushing the op-amp and engaging hard clipping for overdrive.

SLIDER

This slider switch offers two distinct clipping variations, inspired by the V1 clipping arrangements. When the slide switch is DOWN, it replicates the clipping from the earliest version, resulting in the most distorted and saturated sound. When the slide switch is UP, it utilizes the clipping arrangement found in a later serial number, producing a more open, louder, and clearer tone.

POWER

The pedal can be powered using a DCV source between +9V to +18V, with a center-negative polarity. It is important not to exceed +18V DCV, as doing so will void the warranty. The current consumption is 5mA.
