  • Durable Construction: Made from acrylic, which is 10 times stronger than glass, 50% lighter, and 93% clearer, ensuring longevity and superior viewing.
  • Advanced Filtration: Features a true 5-stage filtration system covering biological, mechanical, chemical, water stabilization, and oxygenation, providing a clean and healthy aquatic environment.
  • Universal Filter Cartridge: Utilizes a "one size fits all" filter cartridge for all BiOrb aquariums, simplifying maintenance.
  • MCR LED Lighting: Multi-Color Remote (MCR) LED light unit for customizable illumination and ambiance.
  • Complete Kit: Includes essential components such as the 12V transformer, air pump, air stone, ceramic media, filter cartridge, water conditioner, and beneficial bacteria liquid.

Setup Guide

Follow these steps carefully to set up your BiOrb Life 45 Aquarium:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage. Retain packaging for future transport or warranty claims.
  2. Placement: Choose a stable, level surface capable of supporting the full weight of the aquarium (approximately 120 lbs when filled). Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts. Ensure there is access to a power outlet.
  3. Add Ceramic Media: Rinse the included 2 pounds (900 grams) of ceramic media thoroughly under cold tap water to remove any dust. Place the rinsed media evenly at the bottom of the aquarium. This media provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria.
  4. Install Filter Cartridge: Locate the filter cartridge housing at the bottom center of the aquarium. Insert the filter cartridge firmly into its designated slot.
  5. Connect Air Stone and Air Pump: Attach the air stone to the end of the air line tubing. Feed the tubing through the designated channel in the aquarium base and connect the other end to the BiOrb air pump. Place the air pump in a dry location, preferably above the water level of the aquarium to prevent back-siphoning.
  6. Fill with Water: Slowly fill the aquarium with dechlorinated tap water. Use a plate or plastic bag on the ceramic media to prevent disturbance. Fill to approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the top rim.
  7. Add Water Treatments: Add the entire 5 ml bottle of water conditioner to neutralize chlorine and chloramines. Then, add the entire 5 ml bottle of beneficial bacteria liquid to initiate the biological filtration process.
  8. Install MCR LED Light Unit: Place the MCR LED light unit securely on top of the aquarium. Ensure it is properly seated.
  9. Connect Power: Connect the air pump and the MCR LED light unit to the BiOrb 12V transformer. Plug the transformer into a suitable power outlet. The air pump will begin to operate, and the MCR light will illuminate.
  10. Cycling the Aquarium: Allow the aquarium to run for at least 7-10 days without fish to establish the beneficial bacteria colony. This process, known as "cycling," is crucial for a healthy environment. Test water parameters regularly during this period.

Operating Instructions

MCR LED Lighting Operation

The Multi-Color Remote (MCR) LED light unit allows you to customize the lighting in your aquarium. Use the included remote control to:

  • Turn the light ON/OFF.
  • Adjust brightness levels.
  • Select from various color options.
  • Choose pre-programmed light cycles or effects (e.g., sunrise, sunset, moonlight).

Refer to the separate MCR remote control guide for detailed instructions on all functions.

Introducing Fish

After the aquarium has successfully cycled (typically indicated by stable ammonia and nitrite levels at zero, and nitrates present), you can begin to introduce fish. Introduce fish gradually, adding a few at a time over several weeks to avoid overwhelming the biological filter. Research appropriate fish species for a 12-gallon aquarium.

Feeding

Feed your fish small amounts once or twice a day. Only provide what they can consume within 2-3 minutes. Overfeeding can lead to poor water quality.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for a healthy and clear aquarium. The BiOrb design simplifies this process.

Filter Cartridge Replacement

The filter cartridge should be replaced approximately every 4-6 weeks. To replace:

  1. Unplug the transformer from the power outlet.
  2. Carefully remove the old filter cartridge from its housing.
  3. Insert a new BiOrb filter cartridge, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  4. Reconnect the transformer to the power outlet.

Note: Do not rinse the ceramic media during routine filter changes, as this can remove beneficial bacteria.

Water Changes

Perform a 25-30% water change every 2-4 weeks, or more frequently if water quality issues arise. Use a gravel vacuum to remove debris from the ceramic media. Always add water conditioner to the new water before adding it to the aquarium.

Cleaning the Aquarium

The acrylic material of your BiOrb aquarium is easy to clean. Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth or an aquarium-safe cleaning pad to wipe down the inside and outside surfaces. Avoid using household cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can scratch the acrylic.
