4.2 Receiver

The Receiver is a handheld unit used for tracing cables and detecting signals emitted by the Emitter. It features indicator lights for power, charging, NCV (Non-Contact Voltage), and scan functions, along with a rotary dial for sensitivity adjustment.

4.3 Remote Identifier (Wiremap)

The Remote Identifier is a compact unit used in conjunction with the Emitter for wiremap testing of network and telephone cables. It helps identify short circuits, open circuits, cross-overs, and reverse connections.

5. Setup

Before using the NF-8601, ensure the device is adequately charged and all necessary cables are prepared.

  1. Charging the Device: Connect the provided micro USB charger wire to the Emitter unit and plug the charger into a power outlet. The device uses a 3.7V lithium battery. Ensure it is fully charged before initial use.
  2. Power On: Press and hold the power button on the Emitter unit to turn it on. The LCD screen will illuminate.
  3. Cable Preparation: Have the cables you intend to test (RJ11, RJ45, BNC) ready. Use the adapted telephone line and network cable provided if needed.

6. Operating Instructions

The NF-8601 offers a variety of testing modes. Navigate through the menu using the directional and OK buttons on the Emitter.

6.1 PoE PING Testing

This function allows you to test Power over Ethernet (PoE) status and perform PING tests on network cables.

  1. Select 'PoE PING' from the main menu on the Emitter.
  2. Connect the network cable to the RJ45 MAIN port on the Emitter.
  3. The device will display PoE voltage, polarity, and standard (e.g., 802.3af/at).
  4. For PING testing, enter the IP address of the target device and initiate the test.

6.2 Cable Tracing (Hunting)

Use this function to locate a specific cable among a bundle of unknown cables (RJ11, RJ45, BNC).

  1. Connect one end of the target cable to the appropriate port (RJ11, RJ45, or BNC) on the Emitter.
  2. Select 'Scan' or 'Hunt' mode on the Emitter.
  3. Use the Receiver to scan along the cable bundle. The Receiver will emit an audible tone, which will be loudest when it is near the target cable.

6.3 Port Flash Function

This feature helps visually identify the connected LAN cable on a switch or router without needing the Receiver.

  1. Connect the network cable to the RJ45 MAIN port on the Emitter.
  2. Select 'Port Flash' mode on the Emitter.
  3. Observe the port lights on the connected switch or router. The port connected to the Emitter will flash, allowing for easy identification.

6.4 Scanning Cable on PoE Switch

The NF-8601 is capable of scanning cables connected to a PoE switch without causing damage to the switch.

  1. Connect the network cable from the PoE switch to the RJ45 MAIN port on the Emitter.
  2. Select the appropriate scanning mode. The device is designed to safely interact with PoE environments.

6.5 Locating Faults and Wiremap Testing

This function identifies short circuits, open circuits, cross-overs, and reverse connections for RJ11, RJ45, and BNC cables.

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the Emitter's corresponding port (RJ11, RJ45, or BNC).
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Remote Identifier (Wiremap unit).
  3. Select 'Wiremap' or 'Fault Test' mode on the Emitter.
  4. The LCD screen will display the wiring status, indicating any faults such as opens, shorts, crosses, or reverses.
  5. For 2-core cables, the device can also locate the exact short circuit location.

6.6 Cable Length Measurement

Measure the length of network, telephone, and coaxial cables accurately.

  1. Ensure the cable is disconnected from all other devices.
  2. Connect one end of the cable to the Emitter's appropriate port.
  3. Select 'Length Test' mode. The device will display the cable length in meters or feet.

6.7 Voltage Detecting Function

Detect the presence of voltage in cables.

  1. Select 'Voltage Detect' mode.
  2. Use the Receiver's NCV function or connect the cable to the Emitter (if applicable) to detect voltage.

6.8 Memory and Storage

The NF-8601 can save up to 160 groups of test data and export them to a computer.

  1. After a test, select the 'Save' option to store the results.
  2. To export data, connect the Emitter to a PC using the micro USB cable. The device will appear as a storage device, allowing you to transfer saved data (in .txt format).

  • Port Protection: Keep the RJ45, RJ11, and BNC ports free from dust and debris. Use protective caps if provided.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your NF-8601, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Device does not power on:
    • Ensure the battery is fully charged. Connect the charger and wait for a few minutes before attempting to power on again.
    • Check the power button for any physical damage or obstruction.
  • Inaccurate cable length measurement:
    • Ensure the cable is completely disconnected from all other devices before testing.
    • Verify that the cable type setting (if applicable) matches the cable being tested.
    • Check for any damage to the cable or connectors.
  • No signal detected during cable tracing:
    • Ensure the Emitter is in 'Scan' or 'Hunt' mode and the cable is properly connected.
    • Adjust the sensitivity dial on the Receiver.
    • Check the Receiver's battery level.
  • Wiremap shows errors (short, open, cross):
    • Inspect the cable and connectors for visible damage.
    • Ensure both ends of the cable are securely connected to the Emitter and Remote Identifier.
    • Test with a known good cable to verify the device's functionality.
