2. Safety Precautions

To prevent electric shock, fire, or damage to the unit, please read and follow all instructions carefully.

  • Power Source: This cabinet is passive and does not require direct power. Ensure any connected amplifier is properly grounded and uses the correct voltage.
  • Ventilation: Do not block any ventilation openings. Ensure adequate airflow around the cabinet.
  • Water and Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or excessive humidity. Do not place objects filled with liquids on or near the unit.
  • Heat: Keep the unit away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus that produce heat.
  • Cleaning: Clean only with a dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Placement: Place the cabinet on a stable, level surface to prevent it from falling.
  • Speaker Cables: Use high-quality speaker cables with appropriate gauge for connections to prevent signal loss or damage.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • VOX BC108 Amplifier Cabinet
  • Speaker Cable (may vary by region/retailer)
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your VOX BC108 amplifier cabinet:

  1. Placement: Position the BC108 cabinet on a stable surface. For optimal sound projection, consider placing it on the floor or on a sturdy stand.
  2. Connecting to an Amplifier Head:

Locate the speaker output jack on your amplifier head and one of the input jacks on the rear of the BC108 cabinet. Use a high-quality speaker cable to connect these two points. Ensure both the amplifier and the cabinet are powered off before making connections.

  3. Impedance Matching: The BC108 has an impedance of 8 Ohms. Ensure your amplifier head's output impedance setting matches or is compatible with the cabinet's impedance to prevent damage to your amplifier.
  4. Parallel Speaker Jacks: The BC108 features two parallel speaker jacks. One jack serves as the input from your amplifier, and the other can be used to connect an additional speaker cabinet in parallel. When connecting two 8-Ohm cabinets in parallel, the total impedance presented to the amplifier will be 4 Ohms. Ensure your amplifier can safely operate at this lower impedance.

5. Operation

The BC108 is a passive speaker cabinet and its operation is directly controlled by the connected amplifier head.

  • Power On/Off: Turn on your amplifier head after all connections are securely made. Turn off the amplifier head before disconnecting any cables.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the volume and tone settings directly on your amplifier head.
  • Daisy-Chaining (Connecting Multiple Cabinets): If you wish to connect a second 8-Ohm cabinet, use a speaker cable to connect the second parallel jack on the BC108 to the input of the additional cabinet. Remember that this configuration will result in a 4-Ohm load for your amplifier.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your BC108 cabinet.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the cabinet with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the cabinet in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Inspection: Periodically check speaker cables for any signs of wear or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BC108 cabinet, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution

  • Amplifier output impedance mismatch.
  • Ensure amplifier is powered on and functioning.
  • Check all speaker cable connections at both the amplifier and cabinet.
  • Try a different speaker cable.
  • Verify amplifier output impedance matches cabinet (8 Ohms, or 4 Ohms for two cabinets).
Distorted or weak sound.
  • Amplifier volume too high.
  • Damaged speaker.
  • Incorrect impedance matching.
  • Faulty amplifier.
  • Reduce amplifier volume.
  • Test with another known-good speaker cabinet if possible.
  • Confirm impedance settings.
  • Test the amplifier with another speaker or headphones to isolate the issue.
Intermittent sound.
  • Loose speaker cable connection.
