Installation Instructions (Setup)

Safety First: Before beginning any maintenance, ensure the engine is off, cool, and the spark plug wire is disconnected to prevent accidental starting.

1. Locate the Air Filter Housing: On most lawn mowers, the air filter housing is a plastic or metal cover located near the carburetor.
2. Remove the Cover: Unclip or unscrew the fasteners holding the air filter housing cover in place and carefully remove it.
3. Remove Old Filters: Take out the old air filter and pre-filter. Note their orientation for correct installation of the new ones. Dispose of old filters responsibly.
4. Clean the Housing: Wipe away any dirt, dust, or debris from inside the air filter housing using a clean cloth. Avoid letting debris fall into the carburetor.
5. Install New Pre-Filter: If your engine uses a pre-filter (foam sleeve), slide the new HURI pre-filter over the new HURI air filter.
6. Install New Air Filter: Insert the new air filter (with pre-filter, if applicable) into the housing, ensuring it seats properly and creates a tight seal. The rubber gasket should be flush against the housing.
7. Reattach Cover: Place the air filter housing cover back on and secure it with the clips or screws. Ensure it is tightly sealed to prevent unfiltered air from entering the engine.
8. Reconnect Spark Plug: Reconnect the spark plug wire.

Maintenance

Regular inspection and replacement of the air filter are vital for engine health.

• Inspection: Check the air filter and pre-filter every 25 hours of operation or at least once per mowing season, more frequently in dusty conditions.
• Replacement: Replace the air filter and pre-filter annually, or sooner if they appear heavily soiled, torn, or damaged. A dirty air filter restricts airflow, leading to reduced engine power, increased fuel consumption, and potential engine damage.
• Cleaning Pre-Filter (if applicable): Some foam pre-filters can be gently washed with mild soap and water, then thoroughly air-dried before reinstallation. However, for optimal performance, replacement is recommended. The paper air filter element should not be washed.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues after replacing the air filter, consider the following:

• Engine Runs Poorly/Lacks Power: Double-check that the air filter is seated correctly and the housing cover is securely fastened. An improper seal can allow unfiltered air or restrict airflow.
• Filter Doesn't Fit: Verify that you have the correct HURI replacement part for your specific mower model by checking the compatibility list in this manual and your mower's owner's manual.
• Excessive Smoke: While not directly caused by an air filter, a severely clogged filter can sometimes contribute to rich fuel mixtures. Ensure the filter is clean and properly installed.
