Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the security and functionality of your deadbolt. If you are unsure about any step, it is recommended to consult a qualified locksmith or professional installer.
- Prepare the Door: Ensure the door is properly bored for a deadbolt, including the cross bore and edge bore. The backset (distance from the door edge to the center of the cross bore) should be 2 3/4 inches.
- Install the Latch Bolt: Insert the latch bolt into the edge bore of the door. Ensure the bevel of the latch bolt faces the door frame. Secure it with screws.
- Install the Exterior Cylinder: Place the exterior cylinder assembly through the cross bore from the outside of the door. Ensure the tailpiece aligns with the slot in the latch bolt.
- Install the Interior Thumbturn Assembly: Position the interior thumbturn assembly over the tailpiece and secure it to the exterior cylinder using the provided mounting screws.
- Test Operation: With the door open, test the deadbolt's operation using both the key from the exterior and the thumbturn from the interior. The bolt should extend and retract smoothly.
- Install Strike Plate: Mark and chisel out the door frame for the strike plate, ensuring the deadbolt extends fully into the frame. Secure the strike plate with screws.
