4. Setup & Installation
This section provides general guidelines for installing the Tesa Assa Abloy TK100 cylinder. Specific door types may require additional steps or professional assistance.
4.1. Pre-Installation Check
- Measure Existing Cylinder: Before replacing an existing cylinder, measure its length (L) and the distances from the center screw hole to each end (A and B). Ensure the TK100 cylinder dimensions (30 x 30 mm) are compatible with your door.
- Identify Cam Type: Confirm if your door requires a long cam or short cam cylinder. The TK1B3030L model features a long cam.

4.2. Installation Steps
- Remove Old Cylinder:
- Open the door and locate the retaining screw on the side of the door, typically aligned with the cylinder.
- Unscrew and remove the retaining screw.
- Insert a key into the existing cylinder and turn it slightly (approximately 15-20 degrees) in either direction. This aligns the cam with the cylinder body, allowing it to slide out.
- Gently pull the key and cylinder out of the door.
- Insert New Cylinder:
- Insert one of the new keys into the Tesa Assa Abloy TK100 cylinder.
- Turn the key slightly to align the cam with the cylinder body.
- Slide the new cylinder into the door, ensuring it is flush with both sides of the door or the escutcheon plates.
- Secure Cylinder:
- Once the cylinder is correctly positioned, insert the M5x60 mm screw through the side of the door and into the cylinder's screw hole.
- Tighten the screw firmly but do not overtighten, as this can damage the cylinder or prevent proper operation.
- Test Operation:
- With the door open, test the cylinder's operation from both sides using the key. Ensure the key turns smoothly and the locking mechanism engages and disengages correctly.
- Close the door and test the lock again to ensure it functions properly when the door is closed.
5. Operating Instructions
The Tesa Assa Abloy TK100 cylinder operates like a standard key-button cylinder. One side uses a key, and the other side has a thumb-turn button for easy egress.
- Locking from Exterior: Insert the key into the exterior side of the cylinder and turn it to engage the locking mechanism. Remove the key.
- Unlocking from Exterior: Insert the key into the exterior side of the cylinder and turn it to disengage the locking mechanism.
- Locking from Interior: Turn the thumb-turn button on the interior side of the cylinder to engage the locking mechanism.
- Unlocking from Interior: Turn the thumb-turn button on the interior side of the cylinder to disengage the locking mechanism.
Always ensure the door is properly closed before locking to prevent damage to the lock or door frame.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and smooth operation of your TK100 cylinder.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the keyway with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dust or debris.
- Lubrication: Apply a small amount of graphite-based or silicone-based lubricant specifically designed for locks once a year, or if the key starts to feel stiff. Do not use oil-based lubricants (e.g., WD-40) as they can attract dirt and cause the mechanism to gum up over time.
- Key Care: Avoid using bent or damaged keys, as this can damage the internal mechanism of the cylinder.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your TK100 cylinder, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Key is stiff or difficult to turn. | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in keyway, bent key. | Apply lock lubricant. Clean keyway. Use a new, undamaged key. |
