Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Galileo G-860BG 800mm x 60mm Refractor Telescope Kit. This kit is designed for both astronomical and terrestrial viewing, featuring an 800mm focal length and a 60mm two-element achromat objective lens. The included smartphone adapter allows for capturing images and videos through the telescope's optics.
The telescope is equipped with an Altitude Azimuth yoke mount for easy targeting and a sturdy, adjustable metal tripod. A 45° erect image prism is included for correctly oriented terrestrial observations.

Setup
Follow these steps to assemble your telescope:
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the carrying case and unwrap them.
- Assemble the Tripod: Extend the tripod legs and secure them. Ensure the accessory tray is properly seated for stability.
- Attach the Optical Tube: Mount the main telescope optical tube onto the tripod's Altazimuth yoke mount. Secure it using the provided screws or knobs.
- Install the Finderscope: Attach the Galileo Mars’ Eye Electronic Finderscope to its designated bracket on the main optical tube. Tighten the screws to hold it firmly in place.
- Insert the Eyepiece: Remove the dust cap from the focuser. Insert the 1¼″ 20mm eyepiece into the focuser. Secure it by tightening the small thumbscrew on the focuser. (It is recommended to start with the lower magnification 20mm eyepiece for easier initial targeting.)
- Attach the 45° Erect Image Prism: For terrestrial viewing, insert the 45° erect image prism into the focuser before inserting the eyepiece. This will correct the image orientation.
- Attach the Smartphone Adapter (Optional): If you plan to use your smartphone, attach the Galileo G-SPA Smartphone Adapter to an eyepiece. Secure your smartphone into the adapter.

Operating the Telescope
1. Aligning the Finderscope
The finderscope is crucial for quickly locating objects. To align it:
- During daylight hours, aim the main telescope at a distant, easily identifiable object (e.g., a tree top or a building).
- Look through the main telescope's eyepiece and center the object in the field of view.
- Now, look through the finderscope. Use the adjustment screws on the finderscope bracket to move the finderscope until the same object is centered in its crosshairs.
- Once aligned, the finderscope will help you quickly point the main telescope to celestial or terrestrial targets.
2. Observing and Focusing
- Point the telescope towards your desired object using the finderscope.
- Look through the main eyepiece. Use the focus knobs located on the side of the focuser to bring the image into sharp focus.
- For higher magnification, replace the 20mm eyepiece with the 6mm eyepiece. Re-focus as needed.
- For terrestrial viewing, ensure the 45° erect image prism is installed to provide a correctly oriented image.
3. Using the Smartphone Adapter
The Galileo G-SPA Smartphone Adapter allows you to capture images and videos through the telescope's eyepiece.
- Attach the smartphone adapter securely to the eyepiece.
- Place your smartphone into the adapter, ensuring the camera lens is aligned with the eyepiece.
- Open your smartphone's camera app. Adjust the position of the phone and the telescope's focus until the image is clear on your phone screen.
- You can now take photos or record videos of your observations.

Maintenance
Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your telescope:
- Cleaning Lenses: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Gently wipe the lenses in a circular motion. Avoid touching optical surfaces with bare hands.
- Cleaning the Telescope Body: Wipe down the optical tube and tripod with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Storage: When not in use, store the telescope and all accessories in the provided carrying case in a cool, dry place to prevent dust and moisture accumulation.
- Always replace lens caps when the telescope is not in use.
Troubleshooting
- Image is blurry: Adjust the focus knobs slowly until the image becomes sharp. Ensure the correct eyepiece is fully inserted and secured.
- Difficulty finding objects: Ensure your finderscope is properly aligned with the main telescope. Start with a low magnification eyepiece (20mm) to locate objects, then switch to higher magnification (6mm) for detailed views.
- Image is upside down or reversed: For astronomical viewing, this is normal. For terrestrial viewing, ensure the 45° erect image prism is installed.
