4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Wiring Connections

Connect the wiring harness to your vehicle's power, ground, and speaker wires according to the provided diagram. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent intermittent operation or damage.

4.2. Mounting the Unit

Install the unit into the vehicle's dashboard using the supplied mounting hardware. Ensure the unit is securely fastened and does not obstruct any vehicle controls or airbags.

4.3. Detachable Face Panel

The face panel is detachable for security. To attach, align the panel with the main unit and push until it clicks into place. To detach, press the release button (usually located near the top left of the panel) and pull the panel away.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Controls

• SRC (Source) Button: Press to cycle through available audio sources (e.g., Tuner, USB, AUX). Press and hold to turn the unit off.
• Volume Knob (VOL): Rotate to adjust the audio volume.
• +/– Buttons: Used for various functions depending on the mode, such as tuning radio stations or navigating menus.
• Play/Pause (►/II) / ENTER Button: Controls playback for media sources and confirms selections in menus.
• Skip/Search Buttons (◄◄ / ►►): Skips tracks, fast forwards/rewinds, or changes radio stations.

5.2. USB/Android Music Playback

The unit supports music playback from Android smartphones or tablets via USB (AUTO MODE/AUDIO MODE).

1. Connect your Android device to the USB port on the front panel. The USB port provides 5V/1.0A power.
2. Press the SRC button to select the USB source.
3. The unit will automatically detect the device and begin playback.
4. Use the Play/Pause, Skip/Search buttons to control playback.
5. The unit is FLAC compatible with tag support, along with WMA, MP3, and WAV formats.

5.3. Radio Operation

The unit features an FM/AM tuner with 18 FM and 6 AM preset stations.

1. Press the SRC button to select the Tuner source.
2. Use the Skip/Search buttons to manually tune or seek for stations.
3. To store a preset, tune to the desired station, then press and hold one of the numbered preset buttons (1-6) until you hear a beep.
4. To recall a preset, simply press the corresponding numbered button.

5.4. Audio Settings

The KD-R481 includes a 13-Preset EQ and DRVN EQ for sound customization.

• EQ Settings: Access the audio menu (refer to the full user manual for specific button presses) to select from 13 preset equalizer curves or customize your own.
• DRVN EQ: This feature enhances bass and treble for a dynamic sound experience. Activate or deactivate it through the audio settings.
• Subwoofer Control: The unit offers dedicated subwoofer output control. Adjust subwoofer levels and crossover frequencies via the audio menu.

5.5. Steering Remote Control

The unit is compatible with steering wheel remote controls (adapter may be required, sold separately). This allows for convenient control of basic functions without taking your hands off the steering wheel.
