2. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the Weller WT1013N soldering station. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the unit is connected to a properly grounded power outlet. Do not operate with wet hands or in damp conditions. Disconnect power before performing any maintenance.
- Heat Hazard: The soldering iron tip and surrounding components become extremely hot during operation. Avoid direct contact with skin. Use the soldering iron stand when not actively soldering. Allow the iron to cool completely before storing.
- Fume Safety: Soldering produces fumes that can be harmful if inhaled. Always work in a well-ventilated area or use a fume extractor.
- Eye Protection: Always wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from solder splashes or flying debris.
- Flammable Materials: Keep flammable materials away from the soldering area.

4. Setup
Follow these steps for initial setup:
- Place the soldering station on a stable, heat-resistant surface in a well-ventilated area.
- Connect the soldering iron cable to the appropriate port on the front of the soldering station. Ensure the connection is secure.
- Place the soldering iron stand near the station within easy reach.
- If using the sponge, dampen it slightly with distilled water and place it in the sponge tray of the stand. The brass wool cleaner can be used dry.
- Connect the power cord to the back of the soldering station and then plug it into a grounded electrical outlet (120V AC).
5. Operating Instructions
The Weller WT1013N is designed for intuitive operation.
5.1 Power On/Off
- To power on the unit, press the red power switch located on the front of the station. The LCD display will illuminate.
- To power off, press the power switch again.
5.2 Setting Temperature
The station features an LCD display and control buttons for precise temperature adjustment.
- Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) arrow buttons to adjust the desired temperature. The temperature range is from 65°C to 454°C (150°F to 850°F).
- The display will show the set temperature and the actual tip temperature. The unit heats up quickly to the set temperature.
- Press the Menu button (icon with three horizontal lines) to access additional settings or pre-set temperatures if available. Refer to the on-screen prompts for navigation.
5.3 Soldering Process
- Once the desired temperature is reached, clean the soldering iron tip using the brass wool or damp sponge.
- Apply a small amount of solder to the tip to tin it. This helps with heat transfer and prevents oxidation.
- Touch the tip to the joint to be soldered, ensuring both components are heated simultaneously.
- Apply solder to the heated joint, not directly to the iron tip. Allow the solder to flow smoothly.
- Remove the solder and then the iron. Allow the joint to cool naturally without disturbance.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your soldering station.
- Tip Cleaning: Always clean the soldering tip before and after each use. Use the brass wool for effective cleaning without significant temperature drop. The damp sponge can also be used for quick cleaning.
- Tip Tinning: Keep the tip tinned with a thin layer of solder when not in use to prevent oxidation.
- Tip Replacement: Replace the soldering tip when it becomes excessively worn or corroded. Ensure the station is off and the iron is cool before changing tips.
- Station Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the soldering station and stand with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Weller WT1013N, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Station does not power on. | No power supply; power switch off. | Check power cord connection; ensure power switch is in 'ON' position. |
| Soldering iron not heating. | Iron not connected properly; faulty heating element/tip. | Ensure iron cable is securely connected; replace tip or iron if necessary. |
| Poor solder joints. | Incorrect temperature; dirty/oxidized tip; improper technique. | Adjust temperature; clean and tin tip; review soldering technique. |
| Temperature display erratic. | Loose iron connection; sensor issue. | Check iron connection; contact support if problem persists. |
